Philanthropy Officer

Location: WellSpan Health, York, PA
Schedule: Full Time

General Summary

Identifies, qualifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards a portfolio of donors and prospects who can give $10,000+ annually, and/or who are interested in a planned gift. Develops and implements moves management plans for each assigned donor. Works as part of an integrated philanthropy team to develop best practice philanthropic strategies, builds a culture of philanthropy at WellSpan and develops standard and efficient processes and practices.

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Identifies, qualifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards major and planned giving donors and prospects, including grateful patients, community leaders, system leaders, and physicians.
  • Implements moves management plans for top Major Giving/Planned Giving prospects. Develops and implements prospect research. Participates as a member of the systemwide donor cultivation/solicitation/stewardship strategy team.
  • Maintains meaningful relationships with approximately 50-60 Major Giving/Planned Giving donors and prospects to advance their relationship with the Foundation, tracking contacts, visits, solicitations, and important donor information in the Raisers Edge donor database.
  • Develops key relationships with 7-10 physician partners for the purpose of securing gratitude referrals within WellSpan service line(s).
  • Participates in planning long-term Foundation goals and strategies.
  • Staffs board committees as assigned by the Executive or Regional Executive Director.
  • Stays current in Major Giving and Gratitude best practices and communicates same to the team, updating policy, practice, and strategy adjustments accordingly.

  • Prepares reports and analysis appropriate to job duties, assignments, and responsibilities.
  • Attends Philanthropy/Foundation events, activities, and meetings.
  • Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
  • Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment and safety standards.
  • Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.

Travel Requirements:

  • Estimated Amount: 30% - Local travel throughout the WellSpan footprint to meet with donors and 5% out of state travel.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelors Degree Required

Work Experience:

  • 3 years In a successful Major Giving/Principal Gifts capacity in Healthcare Philanthropy. Required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal, relationship building and communications (written and verbal) skills.
  • Ability to organize work and to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to perform basic database functions, including donor information entry and reports.
  • Computer applications skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks effectively.
