Medical Laboratory Technician - Laboratory Admin Support - Days/Evening/Nights

Shift differential Included

(10% for Weekend shift and 10% for Night Shift)

General Summary

Performs a variety of technical and general duties. Functions in one or more laboratory division.


Essential Functions:

  • Performs routine and/or specialized specimen collection, processing and testing procedures with supervision as appropriate.
  • Performs a variety of duties at progressively greater skill levels under varying degrees of supervision; records results. May operate a variety of laboratory instruments.
  • Performs quality control and instrument check procedures and maintains related records.
  • Makes periodic observations of materials derived from cultures and identifies types of bacterial colonies found by determination of cultural requirements and biochemical reactions in chemically-defined media.
  • May group or type blood of donors and recipients. May determine compatibility of donor blood products with intended recipient.
  • Counts, describes morphology of, and performs studies on blood and other body fluid cells. Performs coagulation testing.
  • May perform chemical and/or immunological tests to identify and/or quantitate substances found in blood and other body fluids.
  • Enters or retrieves data from established computer files.

Common Expectations:

  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of the assigned patient population. Assesses and interprets patient age specific data and provides appropriate, age specific treatment. Provides direct patient care to assigned patient age group(s).
  • Demonstrates a commitment to patient, visitor and staff by: complying with all applicable safety regulations; learning the impact of medical errors and methodology that will lead to reduction of errors; reporting actual and potential errors, as well as hazardous conditions; identifying opportunities to standardize processes and "error proof" systems that will lead to increased safety; and participating in safety education programs and root cause analyses as required.
  • Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Participates in educational programs and in-service meetings.
  • Maintains required records, reports, and statistics as directed.
  • Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • Associates Degree Completion of MLT program Required and
  • College Transcript As part of CAP requirements, copy of college diploma and transcript required upon hire. Required and
  • College Diploma As part of CAP requirements, copy of college diploma and transcript required upon hire. Required

Work Experience:

  • 1 year Relevant experience. Required

Licenses:

  • Certified Medical Laboratory Technician - ASCP Upon Hire Required

Courses and Training:

  • Medical laboratory technology or military advanced specialist. Upon Hire Required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Good communication and computer skills.
