Workers Compensation Coordinator-LPN

Location: WellSpan Health, York, PA
Schedule: Full Time

General Summary

Performs a variety of administrative and program oversight duties to support Workers' Compensation case management. Provides internal Workers' Compensation telephonic case management and medical record review. Regularly communicates with the Third-Party Administrator (TPA), supervisors, and employees to drive progress/decisions on case management. Provides high level data collection, report review, information sharing, problem resolution and related recordkeeping for the purpose of meeting Employee Health and Safety customer needs. Assesses the effectiveness of occupational action plans for injured/ill System employees. Supports the EHS Resource Coordinator Team with routine Safe Patient Handling training. Supports and assists with coordination of annual respiratory fit-testing programs to meet Employee Health and Safety policies and OSHA requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Actively provides telephonic case management of work-related injuries/illnesses. Regularly communicates with injured employees, treating providers and supervisors about work related injuries.
  • Educates team members about their plan of care and treatment/care options. Assists in decision making, scheduling appointments, therapy, and other services. Provides coaching and positive dialog to injured employees as needed.
  • Liaises with Third Party Administrator (TPA) and related parties concerning workers' compensation claims and workers' compensation program operation. Participates in workers compensation program decision making.
  • Keeps accurate medical records on workers compensation cases, and reviews/updates case files with TPA to drive decisions. Communicates with TPA regarding injury patterns, accident investigations, etc..
  • Coordinates the systemwide Alternative Duty Program and associated policies/procedures. Arranges work assignments, performs timecard reviews, and coordinates payroll, PTO requests and leave of absence submittals.
  • Maintains accurate and timely data entry into the Employee Health and Safety electronic record and TPA system.
  • Triages urgent issues from managers and staff. Elevates necessary concerns to Department Leadership.
  • Provides statistical input to the development and implementation of injury prevention programs to support Employee Safety Specialists, Safety Subcommittees, and Department Leaders.
  • Facilitates alternative instruction process on the proper use of patient lift equipment and handling procedures for new staff when needed. Maintains competencies via periodic training engagement.
  • Actively participates in quarterly claims review meetings.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED Required

Work Experience:

  • Less than 1 year 6 months nursing experience Required
  • 2 years case management experience Preferred

Licenses:

  • Licensed Practical Nurse Upon Hire Required or
  • Licensed Practical Nurse Multi State License Upon Hire Required

Courses and Training:

  • Completion of a state-approved LPN or LVN program Upon Hire Required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Functional understanding of Excel and other Microsoft Office software
  • Excellent communication and writing abilities, effective at presentations to small and large groups
  • PA workers' compensation experience highly preferred
