WellSpan Health is a fully integrated health system serving the communities of central Pennsylvania & northern Maryland. The organization is comprised of nine awarding winning hospitals, 24,000 + employees & over 250 patient care locations.

WellSpan's highly respected Division of Trauma & Critical Care Surgery is seeking a 10th experienced surgeon to join their dynamic & highly motivated group. WellSpan York Hospital is a 600-bed independent academic tertiary care center and home to the regional Level-1 Adult Trauma Program. The ideal candidate will be board certified in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care.

The Division covers Trauma, Emergency General Surgery and the Trauma/Surgical ICU 24/7, 365 days per year. The Division is supported by APPs in the 20-bed Trauma/Surgical ICU and in the Trauma and Emergency General Surgery service lines. The Trauma Program sees over 2,700 patients per year (90% blunt mechanism) with high acuity and over 200 trauma operative cases annually. The Emergency General Surgery service has daily block time and performs more than 1,100 cases per year with a large percentage of cases done using the Intuitive Surgical DaVinci robot platform. The closed Trauma/Surgical ICU admits approximately 1,200 patients annually. All service lines have experienced double digit growth over the past 3 years.

Academic interest in required as the Division participates in the education of one Surgical Critical Care Fellow per year as well as residents in General Surgery, Emergency Medicine and Orthopedic Surgery. The hospital will be welcoming a 4-year satellite campus of Temple University Medical School with students expected to start in 2027; an academic appointment will be available. A desire to participate in clinical and outcomes research is highly desired.

The hospital is experiencing tremendous growth with a state-of-the-art Critical Care & Surgical Tower, new operating rooms and a new 24-bed Trauma/Surgical ICU currently under construction. The Emergency General Surgery Service is working towards ACS program verification. The Emergency Department is seeing over 92,000 patients annually and continues to grow.

The Division schedule is focused on patient continuity while offering a good work-life balance. Base salary compensation is highly competitive and incentive bonus is available based on Divisional clinical productivity.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) Required or
  • Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) Required

Licenses:

  • Licensed Medical Physician and Surgeon Upon Hire Required or
  • Licensed Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Upon Hire Required

Courses and Training:

  • Diplomate of the American Board of Surgery or the American Osteopathic Board of Surgery. Upon Hire Required and
  • Subspecialty Cert in Surgical Critical Care. Upon Hire Required and
  • Certified course instructor for the Advanced Trauma Life Support course. Upon Hire Required
  • Completion of a Surgery residency and appropriate training in trauma. Upon Hire Required and
  • Fellowship in Surgical Critical Care. Upon Hire Required and
  • Must qualify and be a member of the Medical Staff of York Hospital. Upon Hire Required
