Job Description:

Under direct supervision, performs a variety of duties relative to transportation of patients and cleaning, performing preventive maintenance, storing and/or sterilizing medical equipment. Follows established safety guidelines and uses appropriate devices when transporting patients. Provides messenger services on request.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Accountabilities:

  1. Transports patients to and from clinical, ancillary and support department areas as directed.
  2. Assists clinical personnel in transferring patients to or from beds, chairs, wheelchairs or stretchers using appropriate body mechanics to perform patient lifts.
  3. Cleans, distributes and/or delivers equipment to CSR for sterilization on an as needed basis; does minor trouble shooting and preventive maintenance of equipment when necessary.
  4. Checks equipment, supplies and accessories on a regular basis.
  5. Obtains and returns required equipment.
  6. Sets up and removes equipment and supplies; ensures equipment is functioning properly and stored appropriately.
  7. Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment.
  8. Maintains appropriate records, reports, and files as required.
 

NonEssential Accountabilities:

  1. Attends meetings as required.
  2. Performs other related duties as identified.

  1. Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  2. Participates in educational programs and inservice meetings.
  3. Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.
 

Qualifications

  • Notes:
    • Other combinations of formal education, training and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum Experience:
    • 1 - 3 months
  • Minimum Education:
    • High School or G.E.D.
  • Required Certification:
    • CPR certification
  • Physical Demands:
    • Prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing/walking
    • Lifts, positions, pushes and/or transfers patients
    • Pushes/pulls or moves/lifts heavy equipment/supplies
