Weekdays, 3 pm to 11 pm

No weekends and no holidays unless there is a staffing deficit

General Summary

Supervises the workflow of the department. Responsible for resource utilization for behavioral health hospitals, admissions, and acute patient support. Works in a team leadership model to develop and maintain departmental operations that are consistent with Hospital and System needs. Manages assignment of staff to provide safe, effective quality care services.

  • Oversees staff scheduling and participates in the shift's workflow to support staff in achieving departmental metrics.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of all departmental workflows.
  • Provides support to staff in problem solving to determine a patient-centered / regulatory course of action.
  • Provides guidance on recommendations based on patient's clinical presentation.
  • In conjunction with the Director/Manager, identifies lean management opportunities, implements process improvements and policies, and monitors achievement of departmental objectives.
  • Provides staff with timely feedback regarding their performance and clarification of work expectations, including verbal and written feedback for job performance issues
  • Provides satisfactory customer services to patients, families and personnel by assessing complaints or grievances and appropriately documenting follow up.
  • Promotes the personal and professional development of staff and completes formal performance evaluations for assigned staff prior to due dates
  • Participates in the interviewing and selection of new staff; conducts departmental orientation for new hires.
  • Maintains an awareness of WellSpan Philhaven services, community resources, and promotes goodwill in interdepartmental relationships.
  • Maintains an awareness of WellSpan Philhaven's admission criteria and the Mental Health Procedures Act and serves as a resource for other WellSpan Philhaven staff concerning appropriateness for admission and mental health legal requirements.
  • Maintains a knowledge base of behavioral management techniques and provides leadership during internal and external emergencies as needed. Serves as an initial contact for internal emergencies, administrative and public relations issues, and directs these contacts to the appropriate WellSpan Philhaven staff.

  • Maintains awareness of entity and departmental changes. Educates staff regarding new policies and procedures.
  • Prioritizes workload and manages time effectively in order to best serve other staff and potential patients.
  • Attends relevant trainings and department meetings.

Minimum Education:

  • Master's Degree Required

Work Experience:

  • 2 years mental health and professional working experience required and
  • Psychology, social work or related field of study Required

Licenses:

  • Certified Healthcare Security and Safety Officer Supervisor Level Upon Hire Preferred

Driver's License Statement:

Must possess a valid driver's license in the current state of residence. Driving record must meet requirements established by WellSpan Risk Management.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent human relations, customer service, and oral/written communication skills
  • Visual ability to review and prepare written information and to observe patient behavior
  • Analytical ability
  • Ability to provide counsel
  • A moderate level of physical prowess
  • Knowledge of and ability in the care and handling of patients in all age groups
