General Summary

Under the direction of a registered sleep technologist, performs a variety of tests related to the diagnosis and treatment of sleep-related breathing disorders according to established standards and practices.

Essential Functions:

  • Schedules, performs and evaluates the technical validity of overnight sleep studies, nocturnal pulse oximetry, and other related studies.
  • Sets up and applies polysomnographic monitoring devices, ensuring patient safety and accurate test results according to AASM guidelines.
  • Provides summary analysis/reports of all polysomnographic studies for physician review.
  • Instructs patient in the home use of therapeutic devices.
  • Conducts self-learning modules in preparation for credentialing exam
  • Acquires clinical knowledge and skills to remain current to meet the unique needs of patients related to functional capacity, physical limitations, psychosocial needs and age/population related illnesses.
  • Completes all documentation necessary related to the testing process. This includes documentation in the medical record and diagnostic software
  • Attends required staff meetings and educational sessions

Common Expectations:

  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of the assigned patient population. Assesses and interprets patient age specific data and provides appropriate, age specific treatment. Provides direct patient care to assigned patient age group(s).
  • Prepares and maintains written documentation as required by the profession and the department.
  • Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental and infection control standards.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED Required
  • Associates Degree Preferred

Work Experience:

  • Less than 1 year Required

Licenses:

  • Heartsaver CPR/AED within 90 days Required and
  • Registered Polysomnographic Technologist within 3 years Required

Courses and Training:

  • AASM Sleep Team Education Program (ASTEP) within 1 year Required
