Senior Director, Public Safety and Security

Location: WellSpan Health, York, PA
Schedule: Full Time

Oversees the strategic operations, planning, and continuous improvement of protection and security services across the organization. Guides policy development, operational integration, and ongoing performance evaluations to maintain a safe environment for team members, patients, and visitors.

Essential Functions

  • Manages strategic goals and initiatives by performing weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual leader expectations, including operational reviews, budget oversight, huddle coordination, and performance evaluations.
  • Develops and implements system-wide security protocols, ensuring alignment with modern security and protection best practices to safeguard team members, patients, and visitors.
  • Oversees security functions across all WellSpan locations, integrating consistent processes and coordinating with leadership to identify and address unique facility needs and risk factors.
  • Organizes post-event debriefs with emergency management and evaluates security incidents, refining procedures as needed to enhance response times and support team members involved in Workplace Violence and other events.
  • Collaborates with external agencies and internal emergency management teams to coordinate first-response efforts and ensure preparedness for internal or external incidents.
  • Ensures ongoing communication and coordination with contracted security providers to maintain consistent standards and clear expectations across all relevant facilities.
  • Conducts or delegates investigations involving potential security breaches, property crimes, or threats, and maintains detailed documentation to keep leadership informed.
  • Educates team members and leaders on de-escalation techniques, security protocols, and personal safety measures, promoting a culture of prevention and awareness.
  • Plans and executes special initiatives, product lines, and service enhancements by providing project management or oversight at local, regional, and system levels.
    Facilitates interdepartmental marketing and/or community outreach activities, as appropriate, to strengthen awareness of available security resources and services provided by WellSpan.
  • Coordinates integration activities between relevant departments, service lines, and support services, ensuring security considerations are addressed in broader operational decisions.
  • Leads or supports annual budgeting processes, strategic planning discussions, and alignment of public safety objectives with overarching organizational goals.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Public Safety Administration, Business Administration, Criminal Justice, or related field required. Masters Degree preferred.
  • At least 10 years progressive leadership experience including supervisory roles, in law enforcement, security, or a related field required.
