Senior Director Nursing Operations


General Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Chief Nursing Officer/Chief Operating Officer, provides leadership and oversight of nursing practice and operations within WellSpan York Hospital. Plans, organizes and directs the delivery of nursing services throughout the organization. Collaborates with other leaders to ensure the delivery of patient centered, efficient and coordinated care. Develops clinical policy, evaluates clinical data and outcomes measures. Participates with leaders from the governing body, management, medical staff and clinical areas regarding the Hospitals decision making structures.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The following are essential job accountabilities:

  1. Plans, implements and evaluates standards and practices for patient care and facilitates the delivery of services.
  2. Responsible for compliance with all regulatory and accrediting bodies as well as leading activities that meet Magnet certification expectations.
  3. Collaborates with other clinical leaders to advance clinical process, system improvement and management of patient care quality.
  4. Utilizes lean principles to foster operational improvement in patient centeredness, quality of care and cost effectiveness.
  5. Develops policies and procedures which describe the methods for assessing and evaluating patient care, the care delivery model and how patient needs are met.
  6. Develops and implements goals for operational areas. Consistently monitors progress toward goals and holds teams accountable to achieve them.
  7. Determines appropriate numbers and types of personnel appropriate for providing high quality care for patient care units.
  8. Supports and mentors shared decision making and clinical advancement philosophy.
  9. Regularly communicates with staff regarding strategic direction, financial projections, business climate and other key objectives needed for success.
  10. Participates in strategic planning, goals setting, budget preparation and analysis and program development in collaboration with Hospital leadership.
  11. Facilitates the development of trusting relationships with referral sources, physicians and colleagues. Seeks input regarding opportunities to enhance care and service quality.
  12. Seeks opportunities to become involved in activities that support system integration.
  13. In conjunction with the clinical directors of assigned departments, develops and implements department functions consistent with hospital mission and vision. Ensures quality of services provided and continually seeks opportunities to improve.

Required Skills

MBA, MHA or MSN Degree Required

Current PA RN License 

Nursing Executive Certification Preferred

Required Experience

5 - 10 years Hospital/Healthcare Management Experience Required

Project Management Experience Preferred
