Registered Nurse - Virtual Care (On-Site) - Good Samaritan

General Summary

Provides virtual nursing care to a diverse population of patients by using remote monitoring technology software and related electronic health record. Works in partnership with the Clinical Nurse and in accordance with the principles of patient and family-centered care based on the nursing process and according to the clinical standards of the hospital. Coordinates care planning with other disciplines. Coaches and mentors novice nurses.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coaches and mentors the novice nurse in developing clinical reasoning skills.
  • Independently, and in partnership with clinical nurse, recognizes subtle changes in condition and assists in modifying the plan of care accordingly. Initiates emergency action in response to acute risk situations. Responds in a timely way to alarms and communicates/reports abnormalities promptly to clinical nurse.
  • Uses patient biometric, physiological, and vital sign data to provide and evaluate nursing care that promotes goal-directed change and will achieve optimal patient outcomes.
  • Communicates changes in the patient's condition and actual and potential problems concerning patients, families, and staff to the clinical nurse.
  • Independently, and in partnership with clinical nurse, evaluates and monitors the effectiveness of interventions and progress toward outcomes for patients. Initiates interdisciplinary collaboration in evaluation of patient progress. Identifies and facilitates individualized patient needs for transfer/ discharge and includes patient/family in decisions.
  • Documents in the electronic health record, and all event associated communications with highest quality.
  • Maintains advanced knowledge of electronic health record and all associated software and applications. Able to trouble-shoot minor technical challenges after appropriate training.
  • Begins reading current literature. Expresses interest in evidence-based research and its application to best practice. Understands clinical relevance and its impact on patient outcomes.
  • Seeks learning opportunities and resources beyond own work environment and incorporates into practice the new knowledge and skills acquired. Required education and competencies completed. Encouraged to share pertinent information and job knowledge, related to readings, educational programs and participation in professional organization activities.
  • Actively promotes an environment conducive to professional practice, interdisciplinary collaboration, and patient and staff safety. Supports Shared Decision Making by unit and/or hospital-wide committee membership or by supporting and helping fellow co-workers attend committee meetings and/or work on SDM projects.
  • Demonstrates leadership at point of care.
  • Provides leadership for problem solving and goal formation. Applies current WIGs to care delivery.
  • Promotes cooperation and communication among all team members. Seeks opportunities to assist co-workers without compromising individual responsibilities. Gives feedback to team members about unique strengths and contributions. Consistently interacts with others in a manner that is perceived to be positive and supportive.
  • Displays conflict resolution and negotiation skills to maximize team performance. Provides feedback in a positive and respectful way. Aware of and investigates events that led to conflict; recommends preventative measures or solutions.

  • In addition to requirements specified in the license and certification section below, current BLS certification for all areas of nursing practice is required.Current certification may be required for the following areas of nursing practice:Emergency Care Center - ACLS, PALSIntensive Care Center & MSCC Lead - ACLS, PALSL&D - ACLS, NRP, - Experienced L&D nurses will obtain within 6 months and new L&D nurses will obtain at 1 year of experienceNICU - NRPPEDS - PALSPCC/PACU/ENDO - ACLS, PALSProcedural - ACLS

Common Expectations:

  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of the assigned patient population. Assesses and interprets patient age specific data and assists the clinical nurse to provide appropriate, age specific treatment.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to patient, visitor and staff by: complying with all applicable safety regulations; learning the impact of medical errors and methodology that will lead to reduction of errors; reporting actual and potential errors, as well as hazardous conditions; identifying opportunities to standardize processes and "error proof" systems that will lead to increased safety; and participating in safety education programs and root cause analyses as required.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through advanced/continuing education to maintain up-to-date knowledge, skills, and competencies.
  • Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Provides outstanding service to all customers using caring behaviors; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • Diploma Program Required or
  • Associates Degree Required
  • Bachelors Degree Bachelors of Science, Nursing Preferred

Work Experience:

  • 3 years Required
  • Acute Care Registered Nurse experience. Required
  • Nursing Innovation experience. Preferred

Licenses:

  • Licensed Registered Nurse Upon Hire Required or
  • Registered Nurse Multi State License Upon Hire Required and
  • Basic Life Support Upon Hire Required
