Behavioral Health - Patient Safety Aide

Emergency & Inpatient Departments

Part Time (40 Hours Biweekly)

Evening Shift

 

***Great opportunity for students who are enrolled in recreational therapy, social work, psychology, human services or other related field to gain healthcare experience.

 

Job Description:

 

Under the direct supervision of the Nurse Manager or designated RN supervisor, attends to patients who require special precautions and are at risk for falls and/or at risk for pulling out IV lines/tubes, in order to avoid the use of restraints.  Supports caregiver to maintain flow of patient care efficiently. Provides simple assistance such as ambulation, simple toileting, repositioning and assistance with feeding/fluids.  Participates in the provision of diversional activities such as playing cards, board games, reorientation, etc.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  1. Acts as an adjunct to the acute care staff to perform required visual surveillance of patients with diverse psychiatric illnesses.
  2. Attends to patients at risk for falls and/or at risk for pulling out IV lines/tubes, in order to avoid the use of restraints.
  3. Provides simple assistance such as ambulation, simple toileting, repositioning and assistance with feeding/fluids.
  4. Supports caregivers to maintain flow of patient care efficiently.
  5. Assists with stocking supply closets, sanitizing equipment and workstations and unit areas.
  6. Participates in the provision of diversional activities such as playing cards, board games, reorientation, etc.

 

Qualifications:

 

  1. High school graduate/GED preferred but not required
  2. Previous patient care or customer service experience is preferred but not required
  3. Good communication and customer service skills
