Job Description:

Under general supervision, coordinates the education process for expectant parents and their extended families for a variety of classes and target audiences, including assessing educational needs, planning, developing and implementing appropriate education and training, and evaluating education outcomes and revising content as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Coordinates the education process for all Parent Education programs including assessing educational needs, planning developing, and delivering appropriate education and training, and evaluating education outcomes to reflect current medical practices.
  2. Supervises the scheduling and planning of all classes.
  3. Develops, reviews and revises all written educational materials and videos to ensure they meet established Hospital standards and patient education needs.
  4. Supervises, orients and mentors childbirth educators. Provides training regarding class content and evaluates teaching strategies and competency.
  5. In consultation with Manager, completes performance evaluations for PRN Educators and department Administrative Secretary.
  6. Teaches Saturday Prepared Childbirth Series.
  7. Maintains responsibility for departmental customer service/excellent patient experience culture. Researches and resolves problems as they arise.
  8. Act as liaison with OB/Gyn offices to help ensure flow of correct information related to classes provided by Parent Education.
  9. Advocate and resource for pregnant women, their partners and infants.
  10. Serves as a resource to the community by developing and planning programs in response to identified needs.
  11. Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with hospital standards.
  12. Attends meetings as required.
  13. Performs other related duties as identified.
  14. Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  15. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, inservice meetings, and workshops.
  16. Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.The following are nonessential job accountabilities for purposes:
 

Qualifications

  • Notes:
    • Other combinations of formal education, training and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum Experience:
    • 3 - 5 years (2 or more years (recent) in specialty (labor and delivery, maternity, NICU))
    • Prefer Experience as an educator and program coordinator in a Health related field/organization
    • Required Cert/Registration and current RN license in PA; BLS certification
  • Minimum Education:
    • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
  • Preferred Education:
    • Master’s Degree in Nursing or Education
