Nuclear Medicine Technologist - Nuclear Medicine - Day

General Summary

Performs a variety of routine and advanced clinical diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine procedures at an advanced skill and knowledge level.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs diagnostic and therapeutic Nuclear Medicine procedures. Prepares radiopharmaceuticals for administration to patients. Determines the appropriate dosage required based on the study to be performed.
  • Obtains patient history, reviews patient condition, and administers accurate radiopharmaceutical dosage following established departmental procedures. Monitors patients during the procedure and reports any unusual occurrences to appropriate personnel.
  • Checks equipment, supplies, and accessories on a regular basis.
  • Evaluates images for technical quality.
  • Schedules cases to coordinate with other patient examinations.
  • Positions and transfers patients safely and comfortably and explains basic procedures.
  • Immobilizes patients as necessary and practices radiation safety procedures.
  • Prepares and maintains written documentation as required by the profession and the department.
  • Introduces and demonstrates new techniques, equipment, and research findings to staff.
  • Preceptor skills.
  • Advanced knowledge with patient scheduling.
  • Knowledge of advanced NM diagnostic protocols.
  • Advanced knowledge in basic NM therapies.
  • Additional departmental responsibilities as assigned.

Common Expectations:

  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of the assigned patient population. Assesses and interprets patient age-specific data and provides appropriate, age-specific treatment. Provides direct patient care to assigned patient age group(s).
  • Demonstrates a commitment to patient, visitor, and staff by: complying with all applicable safety regulations; learning the impact of medical errors and methodology that will lead to the reduction of errors; reporting actual and potential errors, as well as hazardous conditions; identifying opportunities to standardize processes and "error proof" systems that will lead to increased safety; and participating in safety education programs and root cause analyses as required.
  • Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
  • Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.
  • Supervises, assists and evaluates students in the clinical education setting.
  • Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of work areas and/or patient rooms.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • Associates Degree Required

Work Experience:

  • 3 years Relevant experience. Required

Licenses:

  • Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist Upon Hire Required or
  • Registered Technologist-Nuclear Medicine Technologist - ARRT Upon Hire Required and
  • Basic Life Support Upon Hire Required
