Job Description:

Position Function: The Clinical Manager, reports to the RN Manager of Peri Operative Services. Is a member of the Peri Operative Services Leadership Team that interacts daily with management in Peri Operative Services, Peri Operative Service Line Leaders, Supply Chain, Sterile Processing, and other departments as well as the Surgeons to evaluate, analyze and identify instrumentation and supply needs for Peri Operative Services in the most efficient and cost-effective methods. Establishes and documents policies and procedures, process improvements, standards of practice and performance improvement programs to ensure proper decontamination and sterilization of surgical/medical supplies and instruments according to regulatory and trade standards. This position will also anticipate, acquire and coordinate the equipment and supplies required for all surgical cases to minimize delays in the surgical schedule. The Clinical Manager for Sterile Processing will troubleshoot sterile processing equipment failures and identify the contacts outside of Chambersburg Hospital that are needed to ensure the failure is minimized in the future. Supports fiscal responsibility for the sterile processing department.

Education: High School Diploma required. Bachelor degree preferred. Informal or Continuing Education: Evidence of participation in educational programs to update and maintain knowledge and clinical skills.
 

Experience: Experience applying customer service behaviors and communication skills required. Minimum of 5 years of experience in Sterile Processing required. Computer-literate required with proficiency in Word, Excel and PowerPoint preferred; organizational, interpersonal, analytical and time management skills are essential.

Certifications/Licensure: Certified by Certification Board for Sterile Processing Distribution (CBSPD) as a SPD Technician or certified by International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM) as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician within 24 months of hire required. Certified by CBSPD in Sterile Processing Management or certified by IAHCSMM as a Certified Healthcare Leader within 36 months of hire required.

Job Class Specifics
1. Evaluates and recommends equipment, instrument, and supply needs for the Operating Room by interacting with Peri Operative Service Line Leaders, Peri Operative Services Leadership team and surgeons on costs and value of equipment requested/needed.
2. Communicates equipment and supplies needs to the Materials Management staff so the appropriate equipment is purchased and received onsite when needed. Evaluates and assures appropriate inventory levels of supplies in order to decrease case delays while reducing cost.
3. Analyzes the surgeons' equipment and instrument needs and provides recommendations for suppliers of the equipment and supplies that will allow the Hospital to maximize the cost for the value received.
4. Works with Peri Op Service Line Leaders to anticipate the equipment and instrument needs for future surgical cases so the appropriate equipment, instruments, supplies, etc. can be ordered and received in a timely manner. Recognize trends and creates an action plan.
5. Ensures all equipment and instruments are available for all surgeries to minimize delays in surgery start time.
6. Develops relationships with all surgeons including the new surgeons to understand their needs and preferences for equipment and supplies, while conveying and striving to obtain the surgeon’s understanding of the Hospital’s position.
7. Accurately schedules Sterile Processing staff with adherence to the specifications of the contract and requirements necessary to provide safe patient care. Post schedules according to the contract.
8. Works with Peri OP Service Line Leaders to promote collaboration between the Operating Room and Sterile Processing Department in order to create and maintain streamlined processes that reduce procedure set up.
9. Works with Peri OP Service Line Leaders to evaluate new capital equipment purchases by interacting with vendors and completing various cost/benefit analysis and comparison of the various vendors.
10. Troubleshoots equipment failures and maintains database that will assist in future troubleshooting.
11. Establishes clear, concise policies and procedures and ensures accuracy through annual review/revision; establishes and maintains unit specific competencies; reviews and revises job descriptions and competency tools for all staff.
12. Coordinates Vendor delivery of trays and instrumentation. Ensures compliance to organizational policies and procedures.
13. In cooperation with Peri Op Service Line Leaders and Supply Chain, coordinates product trials, evaluations, and transitions.
14. Assures that all areas of Peri Operative Services and Sterile Processing Department meet AORN, Joint Commission AAMI and APIC Infection Control Standards.
15. Performs all other duties as assigned.
