General Summary:


Under the general supervision of the Manager – Medical Staff Peer Review with a strong matrixed relationship to the Vice Presidents for Medical Affairs (VPMAs)/Chief Medical Officers (CMOs) for assigned entities provides central data resources to clinical and medical staff leadership. Supports the measurement and monitoring of peer review/quality indicators and other evaluations to help ensure the competency of credentialed providers at the department, hospital, ambulatory surgical facility (ASF) and system levels as indicated.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  1. Coordinates and analyzes clinical data for the purpose of developing data into useable, understandable information to improve patient care and delivery, identify opportunities for improvement and obtain desired reportable and patient outcomes.
  2. Provides consultation regarding data analysis and interpretation to clinicians, leadership, and others. Works collaboratively to provide consistent, meaningful information to all levels of the organization, including the information provided to medical staff leadership and hospital and ASF Boards of Directors.
  3. Serves as a liaison between assigned hospitals/ASFs and other entities relating to medical staff peer review related matters.
  4. Facilitates conversations and assists staff to identify and translate quality outcomes into a change in practice (e.g., policy, procedure, process, protocol, etc.).
  5. Uses problem analysis skills and critical thinking to collect and analyze data, propose solutions, develop, and write reports, letters and materials needed to achieve desirable results as requested.  Able to manage advanced database and spreadsheet applications (e.g., formulas, linking calculations, graphing, and reporting).
  6. Works collaboratively with others to develop strategies to successfully anticipate and meet outcome-based quality initiatives internally and externally related to credentialed providers.
  7. Works directly with hospital/ASF medical staff department and medical staff quality committee chairs to develop and maintain dashboards and reports for provider re-credentialing, focused evaluations, and accountability for quality initiatives, financial performance, workload, etc.
  8. Provides oversight of competency evaluation process for credentialed providers, including focused and ongoing professional practice evaluations in a timely and effective manner that is consistent with accreditation and licensure or other regulatory requirements. Ensures appropriate follow-up is taken with specific physicians and providers. Coordinates multidisciplinary approach to clinical concerns by working closely with medical staff leadership, nursing, and other departments.
  9. Utilizes programs such as Symplr and Premier for the management of medical staff peer review and competency evaluation program data and information.  Runs reports for credentialing and other processes and as requested.
  10. Maintains professional knowledge of peer review and competency evaluation requirements and best practices for credentialed providers 
  11. Meets with surveyors from accreditation and licensure organizations related to peer review and the competency evaluation process for credentialed providers during scheduled and unannounced surveys, including complaint investigations as needed.
  12. Designs and implements a system for planning, organizing, and controlling workflow and reporting related to peer review and the competency evaluation process for credentialed providers.
