Manager - Mechanical Circulatory Support Program - WellSpan Heart & Vascular - Days

General Summary

Oversees the general operations of the Mechanical Circulatory Support Program including the ECMO and LVAD program clinical teams. Serves as the operational liaison between contracted perfusion services and the entity. Collaborates with physicians, nursing, leadership, and multidisciplinary resources to ensure that quality improvement activities, metrics and goals are identified, developed, coordinated, measured, and evaluated in accordance with industry standards. In collaboration with appropriate leadership, assesses financial and operational benefits and impact of proposed initiatives and is responsible for the implementation of approved initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Manages the daily operations of the ECMO program and the LVAD program including management of clinical staff, ensuring proper staffing levels, and staff competency.
  • Develops departmental policies and standard work in accordance with accreditation guidelines and best practice. Responsible for implementing and ensuring accountability of clinical staff to adherence to policies and standard work.
  • Ensures clinical staff is competent by means of education, training, process observation, and auditing.
  • Collaborates with the medical directors in the development of protocols for the medical management of inpatients supported by current literature and best practices.
  • Manages and coordinates administrative functions of the mechanical circulatory support program including responsibility of the ECMO operational budget; proper billing for ECMO, LVAD, and perfusion cases; and the development/implementation of cost-effective initiatives.
  • Coordinates the acquisition of mechanical circulatory support capital equipment in collaboration with leadership. Responsible for all the resolution of all mechanical circulatory support ECRI alerts and recalls in collaboration with patient safety.
  • Responsible for strategic development and operational planning for the program.
  • Ensures the program is following all regulations according to the PA Department of Health and all accrediting bodies including Joint Commission, DNV and ELSO.
  • Ensures the mechanical circulatory support program follows all Joint Commission, DNV, and ELSO program accreditation standards/guidelines and oversees the accreditation process in collaboration with the program medical directors.
  • Leads monthly multidisciplinary meetings as required by programmatic accreditations.
  • Plans, designs, implements, and maintains program dashboards in support of operating performance, annual objectives, and accreditation standards.
  • Analyzes data from the ELSO database and STS Intermacs Registry for significant trends or quality improvement opportunities. Coordinates and oversees quality improvement and performance improvement initiatives within the program to enhance quality, efficiency, and appropriateness.
  • Identifies and monitors quality-related accreditation requirements and ensures compliance. Tracks performance relative to national benchmarks providing feedback/data to leadership and guidance toward effective performance improvement interventions.
  • Prepares regularly scheduled or special reports at the request of leadership.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelors Degree In business or healthcare related field. Required
  • Masters Degree In business or healthcare related field. Preferred

Work Experience:

  • 5 years Experience in healthcare. Required and
  • 2 years Healthcare administration or Cardiovascular/Critical Care experience. Required
