General Summary

Oversees housekeeping activities and assists Director in department management.

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Schedules and supervises housekeeping functions and activities so as not to interrupt or interfere with patient care activities.
  • Oversees day to day Housekeeping activities with an emphasis on safety, process improvement and patient centered service.
  • Tours and inspects project areas for quality of work performed and adherence to established policies and procedures.
  • Instructs personnel in use of new equipment, cleaning techniques/ methods, and cleaning agents.
  • Provides direct supervision to Housekeeping Supervisor(s).
  • Inspects housekeeping and hospital equipment for wear, tear, and replacement and prepares requisitions for maintenance or replacement.

Common Expectations:

  • Assists in selecting staff, trains/orients personnel, evaluates performance, prepares work schedules and makes recommendations for personnel actions.
  • Assists in developing budgets.
  • Continuously assesses and improves the department/service line/entity/System's performance. Maintains appropriate quality control/assessment programs (if applicable).
  • Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, inservice meetings, and workshops.
  • Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.
  • The following are nonessential job accountabilities for ADA purposes:
  • Maintains inventory of cleaning materials, supplies, and equipment and oversees their replacement.
  • Maintains departmental reports and records and collects statistical data for administrative and regulatory purposes.
  • Recommends sufficient space and other resources required by the department/service line/entity.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED within 1 year of hire Required

Work Experience:

  • 6 years Experience in institutional housekeeping. Required
  • Supervisory experience. Preferred

Courses and Training:

  • National Executive Housekeeping Association certification Upon Hire Required
  • Courses in hospital housekeeping or institutional/environmental management Upon Hire Preferred
