Job Description:

Under the general supervision of the Imaging Operations Team Leader and the direction of the Radiologist, performs routine and special mammography procedures according to established practices and procedures.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Accountabilities:

  1. Performs mammography studies; obtains patient history; explains routine procedures and addresses patient concerns.
  2. Under the direction of a Team Leader, is responsible for training other technicians/technologists, certifying that techs meet competencies.
  3. Maintains department quality assurance program.
  4. Positions patients safely and comfortably and explains basic procedure.
  5. Prepares and maintains written documentation as required by the profession and the department.
  6. Schedules cases to coordinate with other patient examinations.
  7. Performs the duties of Radiographer as needed.
 

NonEssential Accountabilities:

  1. Supervises, assists and evaluates students in the clinical education setting.
  2. Requests and orders supplies as necessary to keep materials on hand at all times.
  3. Develops film through automatic processing.
  4. Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of work areas and/or patient rooms.
  5. Attends meetings as required.
  6. Performs other related duties as identified.
 

Common Expectations:

  1. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of the assigned patient population. Assesses and interprets patient age specific data and provides appropriate, age specific treatment. Provides direct patient care to assigned patient age group(s).
  2. Demonstrates a commitment to patient, visitor and staff by: complying with all applicable safety regulations; learning the impact of medical errors and methodology that will lead to reduction of errors; reporting actual and potential errors, as well as hazardous conditions; identifying opportunities to standardize processes and "error proof" systems that will lead to increased safety; and participating in safety education programs and root cause analyses as required.
  3. Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  4. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, inservice meetings, and workshops.
  5. Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.
 

Qualifications

  • Notes:
    • Other combinations of formal education, training and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum Experience:
    • 3 - 5 years
  • Minimum Education:
    • Associate's Degree
  • Required Certification:
    • ARRT with mammography certification; Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • Required Courses:
    • Accredited program in radiologic technology and training in mammography procedures
  • Physical Demands:
    • Prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing/walking
    • Lifts, positions, pushes and/or transfers patients
    • Lifts supplies/equipment
