General Summary

Provides leadership and oversight to the strategic development, implementation of processes and execution of the organization's pursuit of Magnet designation. Works in collaboration with the CNO and Director of Clinical Excellence to establish a culture of excellence demonstrating the components of ANCC Magnet Program. Ensures the Magnet framework and essential domains are enculturated and hardwired into the organization through coordination, education and consultation with Leadership. Assists with the budget development for the program. Responsible for application, documentation submission and site visit, for designation, re-designation and interim monitoring reports. Establishes interdepartmental and inter-professional collaboration related to Magnet. Collaborates with leadership on quality patient outcomes, patient satisfaction outcomes, and nurse engagement outcomes related to the Magnet criteria. Provides guidance and support in the development and maintenance of nursing professional decision-making councils and committees. Serves as a consultant to others regarding the Magnet process and application of principles of shared decision-making.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintains expert knowledge of current Magnet requirements and ensures organizational awareness and success.
  • In collaboration with the Chief Nursing Officer and Director of Clinical Excellence., coordinates efforts to achieve and maintain all aspects of the Magnet program.
  • Serves as a liaison to the ANCC Magnet Program Office.
  • Develops and provides education related to Magnet requirements for nursing, physicians, and interprofessional partners.
  • Conducts gap analysis for evidence of the Magnet Program components and works closely with leadership to formulate plans to close the gaps in performance.
  • Collaborates with the Leadership, Quality Department/Council to ensure necessary quality data is collected and reported according to Magnet requirements.
  • Collaborates with leadership to ensure nursing and patient satisfaction is conducted in accordance with Magnet requirements.
  • In collaboration with the CNO, Director of Clinical Excellence, and nursing leadership, ensures the nursing strategic plan supports and is in compliance with ANCC Magnet criteria.
  • Participates on nursing professional decision-making councils/committees.
  • Provides guidance and direction to professional decision making councils/committees related to organizational goals and Magnet criteria.
  • Provides leadership to the Magnet Steering Committee and/ or champions, including education of evidence necessary to demonstrate the components of the Magnet Program.
  • Ensures the collection and maintenance of a minimum data set for the Division of Nursing using the demographic data necessary for ANCC Magnet documentation submission.
  • Organizes, prepares, and submits written documentation in fulfillment of ANCC Magnet Program requirements.
  • Manages and coordinates site visit preparations for the organization.
  • Ensures necessary public notices are posted as required by the Magnet Program Office.
  • Ensures interim reporting required by the Magnet Program Office is completed in accordance with the Magnet Program Office requirements.
  • Actively mentors others, striving to create an environment of nursing excellence.
  • Communicates effectively with organizational leaders, staff, and inter-professional team members to ensure collaborative working relationships.
  • Develops teams, organizes work, and encourages participation within diverse groups.
  • Ensures all organizational councils and associated workgroups are functioning within the framework established for shared decision-making
  • Plans and organizes complex programs.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelors Degree in Nursing Required
  • Masters Degree Preferred or
  • Doctorate Preferred

Work Experience:

  • 5 - 8 years' experience in nursing with 3-5 years' nursing leadership, and/or project or program management experience; Experience working in a Magnet Recognized Hospital Required
  • Previous experience as a Magnet Program Director with experience for successful Magnet Designation Preferred

Licenses:

  • Licensed Registered Nurse Upon Hire Required or
  • Registered Nurse Multi State License Upon Hire Required

Courses and Training:

  • Certified in specialty, professional development or leadership Upon Hire Required

  • Ability to design, present, and evaluate system wide education programs related to Magnet journey
  • Demonstrates critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills
  • Able to motivate, encourage and inspire individuals and groups
  • Demonstrates ability to influence, promote and manage change
