General Summary:


Provides nursing care to maintain a safe, therapeutic milieu in accordance with the treatment plan, hospital policies and procedures and standards of care. Functions as part of the treatment team under the direction of the Registered Nurse.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

1 Assists the treatment team to implement the client treatment plan.
2 Administers client medications safely and accurately.
3 Assists the Registered Nurse in assessing clients’ medical status.
4 Participates in maintaining a safe, therapeutic milieu.
5 Assists clients with activities of daily living
6 Attends scheduled meetings and required training's to improve personal and professional growth.
7 Facilitates therapeutic groups documenting client attendance and response.
8 Updates changes in clients’ data in the computer and replenishes paperwork in the chart.
9 Assists with orientation of new personnel on assigned unit.

 

 

Required Skills
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to establish positive, therapeutic interactions with clients and work as part of a team.
  • Physical effort required in moving immobile clients, restraining agitated clients and walking or standing almost constantly.
  • Visual and cognitive skills to read and write.
  • Knowledge of and ability in the care and handling of clients in a specific age group (children, adolescents, adults or older adults) as assigned is required, including consideration of the special needs and behaviors of that age group. If more than one age group is served, knowledge and ability specific to each age group is required.
  • Must have valid driver’s license and qualify for WellSpan Philhaven driving privileges. Must obtain PA drivers’ license in accordance with PA laws if license upon hire is out-of-state.
Required Experience
  • Ability to observe and interpret clients’ behaviors, document observations and assist in providing client care at a level normally obtained in at least one year of college-level coursework in the behavioral sciences. Further education in behavioral sciences preferred.
  • Current Practical Nursing license in the state of Pennsylvania or possession of a temporary practice issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nurse Examiners is required.
