Position Summary:

General Summary:


Under the general supervision of the Privacy Officer and the HIPAA Security Officer, performs privacy and security-related activities related to the maintenance of, and adherence to, the organizations privacy and security program in compliance with federal and state laws and WellSpan Health corporate policies.


Duties and Responsibilities:


1 Performs routine HIPAA Privacy and Security audits of electronic health records maintained by all System entities. Provides the HIPAA Privacy and Security Officers with results for follow-up and remediation.
2 Maintains documentation of reported HIPAA Privacy and Security concerns/incidents and investigations.
3 Assists the HIPAA Privacy and Security Officers in the coordination and performance of follow-up activities associated with privacy and security investigations.
4 Reviews Business Associate Agreements (BAA). Provides input to HIPAA Security Officer for processing.
5 Prepares routine reports and updates summarizing HIPAA Privacy and Security activities, investigations and sanctions.
6 Serves as an internal resource to the organization on HIPAA compliance and related activities.
7 Maintains current knowledge of industry standards and federal and state regulations regarding privacy, uses and disclosures of health information.
8 Cooperates with the Office for Civil Rights and/or other investigative agencies in coordination with organization leadership in responding to external compliance reviews or investigations.

Required Skills



Associate’s Degree in Health Information Management or related degree

Bachelor's Degree in Health Information Management (Preferred) 

Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Certified in Healthcare Privacy and Security (CHPS), and/or other certification (Preferred) 

Required Experience

Minimum Experience 1 - 2 years in a multi-entity health information management and/or privacy environment
