Job Description

Under the direct supervision of the Dentist and/or Director-Dental Center may perform a specific set of services within their scope of profession practice. Assists with clerical duties of the Dental Center.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assists the dentist by transferring instruments and supplies, keeping oral areas clear during dental procedures and preparing restoration materials and cements.
  2. Opens sterile supplies and sets up for procedures.
  3. Sterilizes instruments, equipment and supplies as required; handles and stores instruments, equipment and supplies appropriately.
  4. Takes and mounts dental x-rays.
  5. Makes hydrocolloid impressions of the patient's oral cavity, pours up in dental stone and trims study models.
  6. Assists with care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.
  7. 7Provides the following services, within the scope of practice, under the direct supervision of a dentist: Placing and removing rubber dams, placing and removing matrices, placing and removing wedges, applying cavity liners and bases, placing and condensing amalgam restorations, carving and contouring amalgam restorations, placing and finishing composite resin restorations or sealant material, or both, performing coronal polishing, performing fluoride treatments, including fluoride varnish, taking impressions of teeth for study models, diagnostic casts or athletic appliances.

Required Experience

  • Pennsylvania EFDA licensure
  • Certified to perform radiologic procedures by PA State Board of Dentistry
  • Graduate of an accredited dental assisting program and EFDA certification
