Dietetic Technician - Philhaven Food Services - PRN

Location: WellSpan Health, Mount Gretna, PA
Schedule: PRN/Per Diem

General Summary

Screens and instructs patients concerning diets.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs nutritional screenings and follow up on assigned areas.
  • Calculates meal patterns and caloric intakes.
  • Consults with the patient care team, patients, and patient's significant others concerning patient diets and food preferences.
  • Conducts meal rounds on patient floor areas to evaluate meal acceptance/tolerance and quality of food.
  • Reviews, updates, and coordinates patient nutritional care through ongoing communications with the patient care team.
  • Assesses patients' educational needs. Develops and implements a nutrition education plan for patients on assigned area.
  • Teaches group nutrition classes.
  • Communicates with multidisciplinary team members on a regular basis to discuss patient care needs.

Common Expectations:

  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of the assigned patient population. Assesses and interprets patient age specific data and provides appropriate, age specific treatment. Provides direct patient care to assigned patient age group(s).
  • Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature,
  • inservice meetings, and workshops.
  • Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation
  • Maintains appropriate records, reports, and files as required.
  • Assists with care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • Associates Degree Required

Work Experience:

  • Less than 1 year 3 - 6 months Required and
  • Nutrition and Dietetics Required

Courses and Training:

  • ADA registration Upon Hire Preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of foods & nutrition
  • Food preparation/production
  • Supervisory and counseling techniques
