General Summary:
Under general supervision, assesses and monitors nutritional care, manages physician ordered therapeutic diets and provides nutritional education to patients. May coordinate patient menu activities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The following are essential job accountabilities:
1 Performs nutritional assessments and follow up care involving review of patient charts, diagnoses, and nutritional history.
Develops and implements a nutrition care plan, as appropriate.
2 Performs nutritional screenings and follow up on assigned areas.
3 Documents all relevant aspects of nutritional care for patients in accordance with institutional and departmental standards.
4 Reviews, updates, and coordinates patient nutritional care through ongoing communications with nursing, providers and
other members of the health care team.
5 Assesses patients' educational needs. Develops and implements a nutrition education plan for patients on assigned area.
Teaches group nutrition classes.
6 Writes diet and enteral and parenteral nutrition orders, in coordination with the patients provider.
7 Represents clinical nutrition at multidisciplinary committees, task forces and project groups.
8 Participates in performance improvement initiatives.

Required Skills

Registered Dietitian status as a member of the American Dietetic Association.

Interpersonal skills, both verbal and listening, necessary to relate and interact with clients and staff with courtesy, caring and professionalism.

Knowledge of and the ability to care for and handle clients of varying age groups, cultures and backgrounds.

Visual ability to review and prepare written materials required.

Required Experience

Minimum of three years work experience as a clinical dietitian to do the job effectively.
