Clinical Assistant - Employee Health - Central Region

Location: WellSpan Health, York, PA
Schedule: Full Time

Monday- Friday (8-hour shift) or flexibility for 4 hours shifts - Day time hours

General Summary

Provides safe, therapeutic and efficient care and services to patients of Employee Health and Safety Department

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Assists with completing New Hire Assessments, including phlebotomy, height/weight, substance abuse test collection, checking vital signs, fit testing, reviewing paperwork for completeness, and provides education on safety, ergonomics, and wellness.
  • Manages specimens and tests and ensure proper ordering, labeling, tracking and data entry of results.
  • Triages phone calls - routing to RN when medical advice is needed. Does not provide medical advice or decision making. Assists with front desk coverage including scheduling, checking in patients, preparation of paperwork, etc. Retrieving medical records when indicated following HIPAA requirements.
  • Responsible for medical supply inventory and ordering. Requisitions equipment, maintenance and repair services, and prepares related forms. Receives supplies checking for accuracy compared to ordering. Reviews monthly general ledgers from Lawson and Pharmacy to ensure accuracy of billing.
  • Proficient in use of electronic health record used in Employee Health department.
  • Manages and reviews the employee transfer list to ensure employees are provided information about additional surveillance requirements needed.
  • Assists with preparation of reports, collecting data, setting up classes and preparing resources.
  • Assists RN team with following protocols for surveillance, substance abuse testing, new hire testing and post exposure work up including contact and reminders for follow-up and assistance with obtaining lab draws when ordered.
  • Assists EH&S clinical team with Fit Testing and Safe Lifting programs.
  • Assists clinician in scheduling appointments for employees for consults and outside provider visits.

Common Expectations:

  • Enters or retrieves data from established computer files.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of the assigned patient population. Provides direct patient care to assigned patient age group(s).
  • Demonstrates a commitment to patient, visitor and staff by: complying with all applicable safety regulations; learning the impact of medical errors and methodology that will lead to reduction of errors; reporting actual and potential errors, as well as hazardous conditions; identifying opportunities to standardize processes and "error proof" systems that will lead to increased safety; and participating in safety education programs and root cause analyses as required.
  • Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Participates in educational programs and inservice meetings.
  • Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.
  • The following are tasks and services that the Employee Health Clinical Assistant will not complete:- Physical examination/assessments or review and evaluation of patient history.- Any medication administration including all PPDs, vaccines, IM, PO, topical or OTC medications.- Care planning including, but not limited to: ordering diagnostic testing, decision making in creating a plan of care, medical triage of patients, diagnosis, discharge patient education.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED Required
  • Associates Degree Preferred

Work Experience:

  • 2 years Relevant experience. Required
  • Less than 1 year In occupational health office, urgent care or other relevant experiences. Preferred

Licenses:

  • Basic Life Support Upon Hire Required
  • Certified Medical Assistant Upon Hire Preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficient in Excel, Word, PowerPoint and computer literate.
