Job Description:

Under general supervision, performs electrocardiograph and stress tests utilizing clinical knowledge and professional judgment within the parameters of professional and departmental standards and protocols. Assesses and provides care for the patient prior, during, and post testing. Prepares and communicates all pertinent information related to testing procedure.



Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Possesses the knowledge and skills level to administer treadmill and pharmacological protocols for stress tests which includes: monitor, record, and interpret EKG tracings for diagnostic purposes, determine appropriate testing protocol, recognize presence of permanent pace maker, calculate and record diagnostic parameters, monitor and evaluate patient tolerance to test including chest pain, submit test to physician.
  2. Responsible for patient safety including recognizing cardiac arrhythmias and respond according to emergency protocols utilizing BLS skills and obtaining emergency medical equipment.
  3. Provides care to patient:: obtain history, assess patient condition, collect and interpret clinical information for appropriateness for ordered test, explain procedure, obtain consent, provide personal care/hygiene
  4. Assists cardiologist with suctioning for TEE procedure.
  5. Performs electrocardiograms. Possesses knowledge of rhythm recognition to notify physician of abnormal EKG and patient's total condition throughout the test.
  6. Maintains clinical information: enter and retrieve patient data from software applications (Pyramis, Centricity/PACS, USA, Power Chart)
  7. Maintains operational knowledge of Noninvasive Cardiology equipment with ability to troubleshoot this equipment.
  8. Performs clerical duties: schedule procedures utilizing knowledge of test codes, inventory management, transport tracking.
  9. Trains/precepts new employees.
  10. Performs EEG procedure independently after successful completion of training and competency is confirmed.  (Gettysburg Hospital Specific)



  • Minimum Experience:
    • 1-2 years preferred and a CCT certificate
  • Minimum Education:
    • High School or G.E.D.
  • Required Certification:
    • CCT certification (16 credits/3yrs.)
    • BLS Certification
    • Skills/Other - Good computer skills
    • Medical Terminology
    • Patient care
