Job Description:
Under the general supervision of the Medical Director & the Manager-Noninvasive Cardiology, and the department supervisor performs routine diagnostic cardiac ultrasound procedures at general skill and knowledge level.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs routine cardiac ultrasound techniques and examinations such as, adult echocardiograms, preps and acquires stress echocardiograms, pediatric echocardiograms, and 3D echo. Assists the physicians with transesophageal echocardiograms and operative transesophageal echocardiograms.
- Supervises, assists, and evaluates students in the clinical education setting.
- Obtains intravenous access and administers intravenous contrast agents such as Definity and Optison. Performs Saline Bubble Studies.
- Prepares preliminary echocardiogram reports and measurements for physicians.
- Performs portable tests in patient rooms when necessary.
- Positions and transfers patients safely and comfortably.
- Explains procedures to patients.
- Clerical duties such as, scheduling patients, ensuring accurate billing codes, answering phones.
- Maintains equipment in efficient operating order; performs preventative maintenance on a regularly scheduled basis; contacts Biomed Department for major malfunctions.
- Knowledge and routine use of digital image storage system (PACS) and associated workflow software.
- Minimum Experience:
- 6-12 months
- Minimum Education:
- Associate's Degree
- Required Certification:
- Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) OR Registered Cardia Sonographer (RCS)
- Required Courses:
- Accredited program in Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography
- Physical Demands:
- Frequent prolonged standing/walking
- Lifts, positions, pushes and/or transfers patients
- Occasionally lifts supplies/equipment
