General Summary:
HVAC /Plumbing Mechanic, under the direct supervision of the Foreman, must have full competency in one core engineering trade and must have intermediate skills in a second core trade. The core engineering trades are: Mechanic (HVAC) or Plumber.   The benchmark for intermediate skills test is listed below by trade.


This position requires field experience in an HVAC and plumbing service atmosphere.  HVAC or Journeyman's license preferred.  Will consider years of experience in lieu of license.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The following are essential job accountabilities; Mechanic:

  •   Performs repairs to semi-complex mechanical devises, intermediate repairs to litters and beds, and PM of belt driven equipment, and food preparation equipment.
  •   Able to install air regulation and drying equipment. Basic understanding of pneumatics and control devices. Knowledge of plumbing for high pressure gases.
  • Basic plumbing abilities such as pipe threading, application of fittings for piping systems, and welding/soldering.
  • Intermediate troubleshooting skills for auto doors, OR tables, ice machines, medical gas outlets, fan coils, and pumps air/liquid, tube system.
  • Basic electrical skills required proving competency for working with voltages to 480v and experience troubleshooting control circuitry.
  • Fundamental understanding in refrigeration theory and ability to perform basic repairs and PMs on refrigeration equipment.
  • Ability to service lighting fixtures (i.e. install ballasts/bulbs).

The following are essential job accountabilities; Plumber:

  • Understand methods involved in joining of pipe materials such as copper, black iron, Cast iron, and PVC using techniques such as soldering, brazing, plastic cement, pipe threading, and no hub sleeves.
  • Basic understanding of domestic water, sanitary waste and steam systems with the ability to make repair or troubleshoot flow problems in the facility.
  • Ability to read riser diagrams and plumbing schematics. Basic understanding of plumbing fixtures and related installations for sinks, toilets, water heaters, eye wash stations, mixing valves, sprinklers, and drinking fountains.
  •  Basic knowledge of different valve types such as globe, ball, gate, check, and pressure relief.
