General Summary:


The Behavior Analyst (BA) conducts descriptive and systematic behavioral assessments, including functional analyses, and provides behavior analytic interpretations of the results. The BA designs and supervises behavior analytic interventions. The BA is able to effectively develop and implement appropriate assessment and intervention methods for use in unfamiliar situations and for a range of cases. The BA teaches others to carry out ethical and effective behavior analytic interventions based on published research and designs and delivers instruction in behavior analysis. The BA supervises the work of Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analysts (BCaBA) and Registered Behavior Technicians (RBT) and others who do not carry a Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) certification that implement behavior analytic interventions if they are not certified.



Duties and Responsibilities:


1. Designs and implements behavior analytic programming to increase skill development and/or reduce problematic behaviors for clients including the direct clinical oversight of behavior analytic programming conducted by Behavior Consultants, Behavior Technicians and Assistant Behavior Analysts

a. Ensures that all behavior analytic programming conducted under their supervision by WS Philhaven staff is provided in a safe and ethical manner and that the BA-BHRS and Philhaven staff will train, provide feedback, and/or report to designated authorities if the family or other non- WS Philhaven professionals engage in unsafe or unethical behavioral programming
b. Engages in functional assessment and analysis of problematic behaviors as well as assessments of skill deficits, motivation, and other environmental variables in order to increase use of safe and socially acceptable behaviors and decrease problematic behaviors
c. Establishes & maintains therapeutic relationship by pairing self as a reinforcing entity and building the value for the client of social interaction with the BC/BCBA.
d. Accurately collects and analyzes behavior data to make decisions about treatment interventions
e. Designs treatment plan goals and interventions that are based in research and are aligned with the dimensions of Applied Behavior Analysis outlined in (Baer, Wolf, and Risely 1968)
f. Seeks out appropriate consultation with other BCBA’s when encountering treatment programming that is unfamiliar
g. Oversees and provides training and monitors fidelity of behavioral interventions for family members and other professional staff caring for the client
h. Provides direct in-situ, one-on-one, and group supervision for BT’s and Assistant BA if non-certified and RBT’s, BCaBA’a and other BCBA’s if board certified
i. Directly designs and supervises behavior analytic plans and interventions for skill development and/or reduction of problematic behavior in which other WS Philhaven staff have not received sufficient training and exposure to previously
j. Collaborates with family and treatment team members to provide treatment effectively and without disruption to the environment or other individuals in the environment
k. Educates all those involved about the role of ABA based interventions and the BC/BCBA, and functions within boundaries of the BA-BHRS role in providing treatment
l. Demonstrates abilities to be flexible and pro-active in problem solving
m. Understands and designs behavioral plans and programming within the regulatory scope of the service provided


2. Fulfills appropriate administrative and non-clinical functions of the position in a professional and responsible manner

a. Maintains awareness of client’s history, present status, diagnoses, and treatment plan
b. Maintains appropriate written documentation of direct and in direct service with the client and family
c. Provides complete, timely, clear, and legible documentation in the appropriate format and on the appropriate forms
d. Attends treatment team meetings, supervision meetings, trainings, performance evaluations, and other administrative meetings as assigned
e. Develops and maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field of Applied Behavior Analysis through interaction with other ABA based professionals as well as ongoing professional development opportunities within and outside of WS Philhaven and maintains certification by meeting training and supervision standards set forth by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board
f. Maintains the billable expectation of the program

Department Description:

The Behavioral Health Rehabilitation Service (BHRS) is a medically prescribed and individualized mental health service delivered in the home, school and community. These services are supportive, time-limited, one-to-one planned behavioral health interventions. They involve both student and family, as directed by a treatment plan. We serve children with a mental health diagnosis who are between the ages of 3 and 21.

Required Skills
  • Interpersonal verbal and listening skills are required to communicate effectively with patients and families and with other inter agency team members.


  • Must have valid driver’s license and qualify for WS Philhaven driving privileges. 


  • Analytical skills are necessary for the collection and assessment of psychosocial data, interpretation of these data and the ongoing review of treatment efficiency and effectiveness.


  • Ability to observe patient behavior and dynamics in order to prepare and review written documentation as required.


  • Knowledge of and ability in the care and management of the unique needs of individuals with developmental disorders.


  • Must demonstrate a strong professional interest in being a part of a multidisciplinary team that specializes in the assessment and treatment of the social, emotional and behavioral needs of children and adolescents with developmental disorders such as Intellectual Disabilities and Autism Spectrum Disorders.


  • Must be able to provide own transportation from one client to another.
Required Experience
  • A master’s degree from a board approved, accredited college or university, including a major course of study in school, clinical or counseling psychology, special education, Applied Behavior Analysis, or another related field.


  • Certification through the Behavior Analyst Certification Board as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst.


  • Licensure through the PA State Board of Medicine to practice as a Behavior Specialist or a professional license with the scope of practice which includes the diagnostic assessment and treatment of ASD.


  • At least one year of experience in providing Applied Behavior Analysis services and experience in developing/implementing behavioral analytic treatment plans.
