Position Summary:

General Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Nurse Manager, provides additional supervision of the daily operations and work activities of professional nursing and ancillary services staff on assigned unit. Oversees the successful delivery of quality patient care, service excellence and customer satisfaction. Provides direct individualized patient care at an experienced practitioner level as required.


Duties and Responsibilities:
The following are essential job accountabilities:
1 Works with the charge nurse to ensure adequate staffing levels and skill mix are maintained for all shifts through the development, preparation and maintenance of staffing schedules that meet department/unit needs and apply to variable census conditions. Makes appropriate adjustments/assignments to maximize timely patient care. Looks to staffing needs into the next matrix.
2 Oversees the delivery of patient care. Directs and delegates patient care assignments to staff based on acuteness of patient care needs, staff availability and patient safety.
3 Prioritizes and organizes work. Actively takes part in the performance appraisal process. Holds staff accountable for performance standards. Mediates staff conflicts and provides feedback concerning performance, behavior, etc..
4 Collaborates with the Nurse Manager and the Charge Nurse on areas of need on the unit (e.g., problematic flow issues, equipment and supplies issues, documentation issues, patient satisfaction issues and performance issues).
5 Monitors all high risk and complicated cases and institutes appropriate actions.
6 Identifies and addresses operational problems and other barriers impeding care or service on-the-spot, and makes recommendations for permanent/long term resolution.
7 Anticipates and resolves patient/family concerns in a timely manner. Keeps patients and families informed.
8 Protects patient confidentiality by promoting professional staff communications.
9 Serves as a resource and role model/mentor to charge nurses and staff.

Required Skills

Bachelor's Degree required 

3 - 5 years charge/leadership experience

Prior oncology experience

Active PA RN license required
