Job Description:

Under the general supervision of the Senior VP-Population Health & Chief Clinical Office, the VP of Care Management leads the system in developing and implementing Care Management strategies to support WellSpan’s mission, vision, and strategic plan. This role provides executive oversight to Care Management across all settings of care within WellSpan Health to create both short term and long-term impact for managing and demonstrating value in our communities. The role provides strategic leadership in the development and execution of value-based care and related population health principles. Works closely with executive leadership to facilitate care redesign that engages care teams, innovates the care model, drives high value care, and positions WellSpan Health as a leader in value across our region.



  1. Leads the design and strategy of care management programs, products and policies toward a common WellSpan’s Population Health vision.
  2. Creates and develops teams that are focused on delivering results that are integrated into organizational structure and align with system strategy.
  3. Works collaboratively with WellSpan leaders and teams in care management, case management, and utilization management activities.
  4. Oversees compliance activities as they relate to care management, case management, and utilization management activities.
  5. Models and champion’s WellSpan’s values and performance improvement strategy with subordinates.
  6. Engages with payer and community partners to innovate care models that demonstrate value in our communities.
  7. Manages employees through subordinates, usually other managers. Establishes performance goals, allocated resources and assesses policies for direct subordinates. Provides orientation training, and continuing education of employees.
  8. Oversees department budgets, staff performance management, staffing and other resources.
  9. Negotiates vendor contracts and monitoring of vendors, complying with WellSpan vendor policies/procedures.
  10. Drives the Lean Daily Management System (LDMS) across case management; compiles data for and prepares regularly scheduled or special reports, analyses and statements.
  11. Develops, establishes and implements goals, objectives, and policies and procedures for department/service line/entity operation, and which guide and support the provision of the department/service line/entity's services.
  12. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
  13. Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.


  • Minimum Experience:
    • 5 - 8 years
  • Minimum Education:
    • Master’s Degree
  • Preferred Field Of Expertise:
    • Population Health, Case Management, Utilization management; Clinical Nursing;
  • Required Certification:
    • Registration and current RN license in PA; or licensed MSW in PA
  • Physical Demands:
    • Mostly sedentary work
    • Occasional prolonged standing/walking
