The mission of the Emergency Department is to provide a compassionate, exceptional healthcare to patients of all ages. Provides evidence-based nursing care to patients and families (including significant others) using the nursing process of assessment, nursing diagnosis, implementation of interventions and evaluation of the patient response to care.  Nursing care includes physiological assessment and monitoring, psychosocial assessment and support, patient/family education; maintaining a safe environment conducive to healing and managing transitions of care.

Job Description:

Acting as the facility Trauma Program Manager, provides educational support and quality assurance for trauma related services associated with patient care. Ensures standards compliance to maintain Trauma Center accreditation.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Works with the Trauma Medical Director in the development and maintenance of the Trauma Program.
  2. Identifies patient/client needs and develops quality programs to meet those needs. Ensures delivery of quality services for patients.
  3. Performs a variety of functions related to Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation standards compliance and Trauma Center accreditation such as clinical activities, educational responsibilities, performance improvement, leadership and administrative responsibilities, supervision of the Trauma Registry/Registrars, consultant and liaison activities, community and national involvement in trauma care systems, and co-chairing and maintaining a target of 75% attendance at the Trauma PIPS which includes the Multidisciplinary Peer Review PI Meeting and the Multidisciplinary Trauma Program Operational Meeting.
  4. Assumes day-to-day responsibility for process/performance improvement activities as they relate to nursing and ancillary personnel.
  5. Participates in rounding with the clinical team and enters data of patient activities into the performance improvement database
  6. Coordinates trauma care management across the continuum of care, including planning and implementing of Clinical Management Guidelines, monitoring of care in hospital patients and serving as a resource for clinical practice.
  7. Maintains a comprehensive written Performance Improvement Plan.
  8. Participates in injury prevention and outreach programs.
  9. Develops relationships with community agencies, groups, professional affiliations as appropriate.
  10. Works closely with Trauma Program Director to continuously monitor actual versus budget activities within the department to assure financial viability of the Trauma Program within the Surgical Service Line.
  11. The TPM in conjunction with the TPMD is responsible for determining and validating which educational forums are acceptable in fulfilling continuing education requirements.
  12. Directs the preparation and maintenance of department reports. Prepares periodic reports for top management, as required.
  13. Recommends sufficient space and other resources required by the department/service line/entity.
  14. Attends meetings as required and participates on committees as requested.
  15. Performs other related duties as identified.
  16. Assists in selecting and assigning staff, evaluates performance, evaluates/tests competencies (as applicable), provides orientation, training and continuing education of staff, and initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions.
  17. Coordinates and integrates services within the department/service line/entity, with other departments/service lines/entities, and with the System's primary functions. Participates in the selection of outside services (if needed).
  18. Continuously assesses and improves the department/service line/entity/System's performance. Maintains appropriate quality control/assessment programs (if applicable).
  19. Develops, establishes, and implements goals, objectives, and policies and procedures for department/service line/entity operation, and which guide and support the provision of the department/service line/entity's services.
  20. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
  21. Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.
  22. Attend and/or participate in local, regional, and state trauma related activities.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Experience:
    • 3 - 5 years
  • Minimum Education:
    • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum Field Of Expertise:
    • Emergency or Intensive Care
  • Required Certification:
    • Registration and current RN license in PA; CPR certification, ACLS, PALS, Certification in specialty all within a year of hire
    • Continuing Ed./Competency Sixteen (16) hours of trauma-related continuing education annually where 50% of the required educational hours must be external and 50% of the external hours may be met by visiting professors and invited speakers.
    • Participation in the STN-TOPIC or STN-Rural Topic Course within one year of hire.
