Position Summary:

General Summary:

Under direct supervision, performs a variety of duties relative to transportation of patients and cleaning, performing preventive maintenance, storing and/or sterilizing medical equipment.  Follows established safety guidelines and uses appropriate devices when transporting patients.  Provides messenger services on request.


Duties and Responsibilities:

The following are essential job accountabilities:

   1   Transports patients to and from clinical, ancillary and support department areas as directed.

   2   Assists clinical personnel in transferring patients to or from beds, chairs, wheelchairs or stretchers using appropriate body mechanics to perform patient lifts.

   3   Cleans, distributes and/or delivers equipment to CSR for sterilization on an as needed basis; does minor trouble shooting and preventive maintenance of equipment when necessary.

   4   Checks equipment, supplies and accessories on a regular basis.

   5   Obtains and returns required equipment.

   6   Sets up and removes equipment and supplies; ensures equipment is functioning properly and stored appropriately.

   7   Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment.

   8   Maintains appropriate records, reports, and files as required.

10   Participates in educational programs and inservice meetings.

11   Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.


Required Skills

Minimum Education               High School Diploma or G.E.D.


Minimum Experience            1 - 3 months


Req Cert/Registration           CPR certification


Must have excellent customer service skills
