General Summary:



Under general supervision, supervises the admission, outpatient registration, Emergency Room registration (GH only) and insurance verification function in accordance with hospital policy. Coordinates necessary activities with ancillary departments.



Duties and Responsibilities:


1 Ensures that the department functions run efficiently and effectively by overseeing operations, scheduling staff and expediting problems.
2 Reviews hospital admission and outpatient schedules to ensure adequate staffing is available for patient volume.
3 Ensures accurate financial and biographical information has been obtained and properly entered into the appropriate records.
4 Coordinates with medical, nursing and other hospital staff to ensure appropriate registration of patients and compliance with third party payers and other regulations.
5 Reviews department operations to ensure compliance with JCAHO.
6 Maintains and fosters effective public relations with patients and the public.
7 May verify all insurance benefits assigned to the organization to determine if insurance coverage meets appropriate standards and corresponds with patients and/or Case Management to obtain required authorizations and assignment of benefits.
8 Oversees the reporting process to ensure all outpatient registration, insurance verification, and inpatient transactions are properly posted. Resolves errors, exceptions and unreconciled items promptly. Maintains documentation on amount of denials based on inadequate registrations and coaches employees so as to reduce/eliminate in the future.
9 Plans, conducts and supervises assigned projects.
10 Maintains Provider File and ensures its accuracy by completing necessary updates. Facilitates reporting to the departments involved with the file (York Hospital Supervisor Only).
11 Creates training and educational materials and provides education to hospital departments and/or physician offices.


Department Description:

Gettysburg Hospital Emergency Registration is a patient centered, customer service driven team stationed in the emergency department of Gettysburg Hospital.  The main focus of the department is to assist with administrative needs. Given the unpredictable flow of the department, the ability to multi-task and adapt to constant change is essential. 

Required Experience

Minimum Education:              


High School or G.E.D.  Continuation/completion of higher education preferred.



Minimum Experience:           


2 - 3 years of supervisory experience necessary.
