Position Summary:

General Summary:

 

 

 

Under the direct supervision of the Nurse Manager, receives and processes incoming supplies and equipment, performs cleaning and sterilizing duties, prepares packs of supplies, linens and instruments in central supply services as directed. Selects and assembles surgical instrument sets for scheduled and emergency surgery. Collects, sorts, cleans, sterilizes and stores instruments after use.

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

1 Decontaminates instruments, supplies and equipment according to established policies and procedures.

2 Cleans, assembles, wraps, sterilizes and stores supplies and instrument trays.

3 Sterilizes instruments, equipment and supplies as required; handles and stores instruments, equipment and supplies

appropriately.

4 Maintains an adequate supply of packs and supplies to meet area needs including inventory control, proper labeling,

inspection of linen and labeling of packages.

5 Performs biological and chemical monitoring in accordance with quality assurance standards.

6 Performs initial instrument counts according to AORN standards, ensuring optimal patient outcomes and promoting room efficiency.

7 Reviews the daily surgical schedule and obtains instruments, supplies and equipment for scheduled and emergent

procedures. Completes conflict checking.

8 Cleans, wraps and sterilizes instrument sets and stores supplies appropriately.

 

Required Experience

Minimum Education:

 

High School or G.E.D.

 

 

Minimum Experience:

 

3 - 6 months

 

 

Required Cert/Registration:

 

CRCST certification within 6 months of employment
