General Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Director-Communications, Senior Communication Specialists lead Tier 2 and Tier 3 communication plans and execute specific tactics in support of WellSpan’s strategic plan and short- and long-term goals. Senior Communications Specialists proactively identify communication opportunities and needs related to strategic communications, corporate communications, executive communications, media and community relations, content strategy and social media. Senior Communications Specialists contribute to an integrated, collaborative, data-driven Communications Team that is known for high reliability and excellence in execution.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Works collaboratively with the Communications Team and health system leaders to identify priorities and develop/implement annual plans to support Tier 2 and Tier 3 priorities or implement best-in-class communication channels and plans.
  2. Plans the focus and techniques of assigned projects to meet the goals and objectives of the Communications Team’s programs; participates in assessing the quality and effectiveness of communication efforts and contributes ideas for future activities.
  3. Continuously scans the internal and external environment, understands the organization’s major strategic and operating priorities and identifies relevant communications opportunities to support organizational change and engage employees, stakeholders and members of the community.
  4. Develops and executes media and community relations activities including the development of news releases, op-eds, story placement strategies, sponsorships, community events, etc. Supports crisis and disaster plans as needed. 
  5. Develops and executes internal communication activities to enhance employee engagement; develops communication plans, elevator speeches, newsletters, articles, blog posts and presentations, and actively participates in the planning and execution of various leadership and employee meetings.
  6. Coordinates, writes and produces communication tools including e-newsletters, talking points, speeches, articles, publications, brochures, posters, news releases, feature stories, online content, etc.
  7. Responsible for photography and videography of system functions and other related activities. 
  8. Plans and coordinates meetings and special events to meet designated objectives.

 

Qualifications:

  Note: Other combinations of formal education, training and experience may be considered.

  Minimum Education: Bachelor's Degree                             

  Minimum Experience: 3 - 5 years

  Min Field of Expertise: Communications, Journalism or Public Relations, preferably with experience in a large, complex healthcare organization

 Skills: Other:  Proven ability to apply communications strategies to high-level organizational priorities; Critical thinking, superior journalistic writing and solid interpersonal skills.
