General Summary:
Under the general direction of the Chief Physicist/RSO(Imaging Physics/Radiation Safety), provides comprehensive medical physics services in Diagnostic Imaging, quality control and accreditation programs in the division, new imaging modalities under consideration by the institution, performs tasks and addresses issues related to acceptance testing, quality assurance, regulatory standards, accreditation, maintenance of imaging equipment, educational training programs supported by the department as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Provides Mammography physics services, to include stereotactic, for mammography units as required by the ACR the amended Mammography Quality Standards Act effective May 31, 2002(MQSA).
2 Provides Nuclear Medicine physics services, to include, as required by ACR accreditation, PET, SPECT, planar, and cardiac modalities.
3 Provides Magnetic Resonance Imaging and MR spectroscopy physics services, to satisfy JCAHO and ACR programs on accreditation and institutional Quality Assurance programs.
4 Provides X-ray imaging physics services, including CR, DR, fluoroscopic/angiographic, and CT.
5 Provides physics support for Radiation Therapy imaging devices, including CBCT/OBI imagers, CT and R/F simulators.
6 Provides Radiopharmaceutical therapy physics services all therapies supported by the Division, such as radiolabeled microspheres SIRT, and radioiodine therapies.
7 Implements radiation control and quality assurance programs in accordance with Radioactive Materials License conditions and PA Code Title 25 Chapters 215, 219, 221 and 228.
8 Assists the Chief Physicist/MRSO in implementation of an MRI safety program.
9 Contributes to the dose management and ALARA programs by performing internal and external dose calculations, participation in Quality Assurance committees, maximizing radiation protection for patients, medical staff, technologist and the general public, while ensuring maximum dose efficiency. Develops radiation shielding specifications and verifies shielding integrity for new construction.
10 Contributes to the ongoing development of annual refresher training for presentation, in either/or live or electronic formats, to employees who may work in proximity to a radiation source.
11 Understands the measurements necessary for acceptance, commissioning, periodic testing and calibration of all equipment and independently performs these measurements.
12 Provides appropriate and timely clinical physics and QA support and demonstrates the ability to make scientifically sound QA measurements and calculations and to discern the quality of the resulting data and its appropriateness for use in the clinic.
13 Ensures equipment functions properly and that the required State, Federal and departmentally defined quality assurance checks, output measurements and protocols are appropriately performed in a timely manner and that documentation of this is available on site at all times.
15 Maintains knowledge of and practices proper radiation safety techniques and practices.
16 Performs other duties as required in support of the mission to ensure highest quality of patient care in an economically sound and efficient manner.

Required Skills
  • Master's Degree in medical physics, physics or related field
  • Board certified in diagnostic radiologic physics or radiologic physics by the American Board of Radiology or, in diagnostic imaging physics by the American Board of Medical Physics or, in diagnostic radiologic physics by the Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine, the American Board of Nuclear Medicine Physics, or equivalent
Required Experience

5 - 10 years of recent full-time experience in clinical diagnostic imaging physics, as the individual responsible for compliance with programs of clinical quality, and radiation safety
