Senior Director of System Nursing Operations
Job Description:
Under the general supervision of the Senior Vice President & Chief Nursing Executive, contributes to the fulfillment of the WellSpan nursing strategic plan by leading the development and implementation of system wide, evidence-based standards of nursing care and policies designed to improve patient care and outcomes. Provides oversight of nursing practice, operations, and financial performance for several system wide departments including transfer center, inpatient dialysis, central monitoring and central alert teams, WellStaffed internal agency, and spiritual care. Assists in the development and implementation of strategies aimed at improving clinical practice efficiencies, workflows, and reduction in variation to improve patient care and resource utilization. Provides on-going operational support to hospital and nursing operations across WellSpan acute care settings in partnership with entity CNOs, nursing leaders, physician leaders, and operational leaders while ensuring effective communication and implementation of strategies and tactics to improve patient care.
Duties and Responsibilities
Designs and develops the infrastructure to provide oversight, management, and leadership of assigned departments/programs.
Ensures that continuous performance improvement initiatives are designed to measure and improve the quality of care delivered and are consistent with the organization priorities within the Lean Management System, including strategies to reduce variation in clinical care and impact on efficiency, cost, and quality.
Works collaboratively with other patient care and support departments, fostering a climate of open communication and mutual problem-solving activities. Initiates and participates in joint performance improvement activities.
Assists in managing costs by continually seeking data that will identify opportunities and take action to eliminate non-value-added work.
Assumes primary responsibility for projects or task groups as assigned, keeping colleagues informed of the progress toward desired outcome.
In collaboration with the CNE and CNOs, formulates policies and procedures consistent with recognized standards of professional practice, reflecting the intent of regulatory standards, and maintaining authority, accountability, and responsibility for nursing services; ensures ongoing compliance with regulatory and accrediting bodies.
Identifies, reviews, and prioritizes opportunities to improve organizational efficiency and effectiveness through the use of technology, automation, and innovation.
Assists in providing leadership to employees that will engage their support, create ownership of goals, and have them actively participate in decisions that impact their practice
Fosters a culture conducive to evidence-based practice and clinical research.
Develops and maintains close working relationships with physician colleagues and other healthcare providers in assigned areas. Collaborates with these individuals to set goals for the areas or develops action plans for patient care or system improvements.
Develops and/or utilizes effective communication systems and methods that promote sharing, partnerships, integration, and collaboration across the System.
Qualifications

- Minimum Education: Master’s Degree
- Preferred Education: Doctor of Nursing Practice
- Required Certification: Registration and current RN license in PA
- Skills:
- Must possess strong knowledge of nursing practice, and nursing administration; strong knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and professional standards; strong project management skills; good communication skills; good conflict resolution skills; good strategic planning skills; strong change management skills; strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities; must demonstrate personal traits of a high level of motivation; team orientation; professionalism; integrity trust; self-awareness; and place a high value on treating others with dignity and respect.
