Job Description:

Under the general supervision of the Senior Vice President-WellSpan Health, performs a variety of strategic and tactical functions to assist in the leadership and operations of security services within WellSpan Health. Defines system standards, best practices and priorities for the overall safety and security of WellSpan facilities. Coordinates first response activities with system Emergency Management structure. Provides direction, supervision and guidance to assigned personnel, coordinates other related project activities, and is responsible for maintaining the quality and compliance with system security policies. Orients/trains and evaluates staff on security protocols and compliance with standards. Prepares project activity and progress reports.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

  1. Develops and implements system standards for security protocols, policies, processes, procedures and response expectations for the safety, security and protection of WellSpan personnel and visitors in those facilities under WellSpan security services direction.
  2. Maintains an understanding of modern police and security best practices and applies them to the health system as needed to create a safe environment for our employees, patients and visitors.
  3. Oversees security department functions in WellSpan entities as assigned by WellSpan senior leadership. Integrates security functions across WellSpan entities for consistency in service. Coordinates security functions with entity leadership/Office of the President based upon the individual needs and circumstances of the facility.
  4. Organizes post-event debriefs around security violations or incidence to evaluate opportunities for improvement, provide needed support and assistance to staff in conjunction with other health system resources such as Employee Assistance, revises procedures as needed to improve response time and enhance protection of personnel following an event.
  5. Coordinates security functions with outsourced agencies that provide security service to any WellSpan entity or facility. Manages these relationships on an ongoing basis to assure consistency and coordination between WellSpan staffed and outsourced security functions.
  6. Works with system Emergency Management functions to provide first response capabilities during internal or external incident command situations.
  7. Responds to emergency situations including, but not limited to, crimes in progress. Provides assistance, summons proper authorities and polices area to maintain order, safety and to protect property. Employs and oversees all necessary equipment during situations that are deemed a threat to the safety of WellSpan personnel, its patients and visitors.
  8. Conducts investigations and collaborates with local, state, or national agencies relative to safety and/or security investigations. Obtains detailed reports of all incidents involving safety and security and keeps administration informed of such incidents and developments.
  9. Educates WellSpan employees on the safe management of volatile situations, security protocols applicable to their area, personal protection, and proper response expectations.

Qualifications

 

5 years in law enforcement

Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice or related field/experience.

Knowledge of security systems, procedures, enforcement codes

Lethal Weapons certification; IAHSS certified Protection Officer
