Job Description:

Under the general supervision of the Vice President of Service Line Operations-WS Medical Group, oversees and ensures effective system-wide operations, activities, programming and services of designated WellSpan Medical Group Practices or WellSpan Health Hospital Based Clinics. Promotes and ensures physician practice satisfaction through sound operational, financial and human resource management. Ensures compliance with relevant accreditation and regulatory requirements and pursues the System’s quality goals, i.e., the medical care to be equitable, efficient, effective, safe and timely and satisfies our patients and communities. Seeks to establish a respectful environment that promotes teamwork, innovation and inquiry and clinical excellence.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Works collaboratively with the Medical Director and Associate Medical Directors to ensure the highest level of individual performance by clinical support staff.
  2. Maintains and maximizes efficient operations of all WellSpan Medical Group sites. Ensures appropriate staffing quality and skill mix based on best practice.
  3. Collaborates with the Clinical Quality and Innovation Team to improve clinical quality and patient satisfaction, including supporting data analysis, working collaboratively in the identification of metrics and benchmarks and communicating results.
  4. Uses information on customer needs and expectations to guide continual improvement of all department processes. Measures the cost, patient satisfaction and outcomes. Develops policies and standards as needed. Tests innovative ideas.
  5. Assesses and responds to the evolving healthcare needs of our communities, new business opportunities, technology changes and reimbursement changes. Identifies opportunities or collaborates for new program development and expansion of existing services.
  6. Develops short and long-range strategic plans for new and established services, directs implementation of new services and monitors programs to increase efficiencies. Ensures that targets are met.
  7. Develops and coordinates the development of financial goals for designated practices, sites or departments. Melds budgetary demands from various cost centers into an overall financial plan, which includes volumes, revenues, accounts receivable and departmental expenses. Works to create/assess profit and loss scenarios and to develop strategies to improve operations using measurable criteria and standards. Creates and monitors the annual operating budgets and analyzes staff productivity. Ensures that the department meets its budgetary targets.
  8. Working with the Chief Operating Officer and Service Line Vice President, assists in the development and oversight of equitable and market competitive compensation plans for providers.
  9. Working with the Operation Administrators addresses issues related to facilities, equipment and supplies. Provides oversight and assess plans for space and capacity constraints.
  10. In concert with IT, participates in the planning and implementation strategies for new IT initiatives, as needed. Ensures compliance with all policies and procedures as established by the WellSpan Information Technology Leadership Team.
  11. Aligns strategic, operational and budget commitments and actively manages outcomes through direct reports or other means as necessary. Ensures excellent communication with internal and external constituents. Oversees the disaster preparedness processes, implementing department functions and presents updates as needed to the Medical Group Board of Directors, System Leadership Councils, outside constituents and other departments within the organization
 

Qualifications

  • Minimum Experience:
    • Seven years of health care management experience with at least five years of experience in the leadership of Medical Group Practices with multiple sites of care
  • Minimum Education:
    • Master's Degree
  • Skills:
    • Excellent communication, interpersonal, managerial and computer skills; knowledge in the principles, theories and environments that are key factors to success.
