Job Description:

Under the general supervision of the Security Supervisors, provides a safe and secure environment for, and responds to the needs of patients, employees, visitors, and other customers of the System. Protects System buildings, assets and premises as assigned.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Accountabilities:

  1. Patrols the buildings and premises to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and intrusion
  2. Patrol parking lots to ensure the safety of individuals and the security of parked vehicles
  3. Reports all suspicious activity, parking violations and abandoned vehicles
  4. Responds to emergency situations such as accidents and injuries, fire alarms, crimes in progress and safety hazards
  5. Provides assistance, summons proper authorities, and polices area to maintain order, safety and to protect property
  6. Employs all necessary equipment to include Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) during situations that are deemed unsafe and during interactions with precaution patients
  7. Responds to inquiries for advice or assistance from employees, students, visitors, and other customers; provides physical restraint of psychiatric patients and others as needed
  8. Monitors the conduct of visitors on premises; confronts unauthorized persons for questioning as needed; secures weapons and contraband
  9. Escorts personnel and visitors to parking lots and hospital buildings
  10. Maintains post as assigned in accordance with training
  11. Notifies police in case of theft, breaking and entering or other matters requiring notification of authorities
  12. Maintains records, prepares incident reports and other documents pertinent to safety and security activities and attends hearings
  13. Conducts routine visual inspections; reports safety and/or fire hazards or security violations
  14. Responds to on site fire drills; responds to on site fire alarms and assists the responding fire department
  15. Secures and/or unlocks offices and facilities
  16. Supports the parking policy, enforcing parking regulations, providing traffic management, and performing other related duties.
  17. Complies with all department and organizational policies and procedures
  18. Assists with the care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies
  19. Performs Security Operations duties as assigned
  20. Secures patient valuables and found property
  21. Prepares clear, concise, and factual incident reports
  22. Ensures all documentation is submitted as required prior to end of shift
  23. Completes vehicle checklists
 

NonEssential Accountabilities:

  1. Attends meetings as required
  2. Performs other related duties as identified
 

Common Expectations:

  1. Remains current on all required trainings; attends trainings/educational programs as assigned
  2. Participates in monthly department meetings and in-service meetings
  3. Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation
 

Qualifications

  • Minimum Experience:
    • No experience or higher education and less than two years with WellSpan Security
    • Leadership is willing to review other combinations of formal education, college credits, training, and experience to be considered for advancement to the next level. Officers whose background and experience exceeds the minimums listed may be used in lieu of the minimum educational requirements. Officers can be hired as a Level 2 Officer if they meet or exceed the Education and/or Experience qualifications. To be considered for an Officer Level 3 Position, Officers must have worked in WellSpan Security for at least 6 months and meet certain minimum requirements (example: number of shifts as a Charge Officer) to be eligible.
    • Required CertificationsShall obtain and maintain the following training certifications:
    • Practical and Tactical Handcuffing
    • Oleoresin Capsicum (Gel)
    • Taser
    • Behavioral Emergency Response Training (BERT)
    • CPR/AED
    • Must possess a valid driver’s license in the current state of residence. Driving record must meet requirements established by WellSpan Risk Management.
  • Minimum Education:
    • High School or G.E.D.
  • Required Courses:
    • Successful completion of additional training courses and certifications are required for this position. If this training has not been previously completed by the Security Officer II, the training must be completed within 6 months of accepting this position.
  • Physical Demands:
    • Prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing/walking
    • Heavy physical effort (lift/carry 26 to 50 lbs)
