Job Description:

Under the general supervision of the Director-Employee Health, provides safety evaluation services at an intermediate skills level to facilitate the prevention of injuries across the System, as well as ensure that WellSpan training and labor practices are compliant with applicable OSHA standards. Assists in the advancement of safety initiatives across the organization to ensure full compliance with WellSpan’s Safety policies. Directs employee participation in selected tasks to restore, reinforce and enhance performance. Facilitates the learning of those skills and functions essential for adaptation and productivity.


Duties and Responsibilities


  1. Provides safety evaluation of industrial and patient care areas for hazard and preventative means throughout the System; available during all three shifts.
  2. Ensures that System workplace and labor practices are compliant with relevant OSHA regulations and provides consulting activities to ensure that workplace hazards are correctly identified and solutions are delivered within management driven timeframes and budgets.
  3. Functions as a safety consultant to departments, service lines or entities for System-wide or entity-wide initiatives requiring education and training.
  4. Serves as a permanent member of the Workplace Violence and Environment of Care committees.
  5. Contributes to the enhancement of organizational, team and individual performance through the appropriate and measurable evaluation of education interventions. Monitors and collects data to demonstrate improvements from position and activities.
  6. Assists the Director-Employee Health with project design, management and implementation of new initiatives.
  7. Facilitates the planning, development, delivery and evaluation of System-wide safety education programs.
  8. Participates in presentations to leaders, administration and nursing management.
  9. Coordinates the use of appropriate education resources for identified education needs, including the development of self- learning/computer-based training or train the trainer programs.

  • Minimum Experience:
    • 5 years experience in health and/or safety/security compliance with 3 years’ experience addressing safety programs initiation.


  • Minimum Education:
    • Bachelor's Degree


  • Preferred Education:
    • Master’s Degree


  • Required Courses:
    • Graduate of an accredited program in industrial hygiene or related field


  • Skills:
    • Proficient in Microsoft office suite.
    • Ability to listen and interact with employees on health and safety issues;
    • Demonstrates ability to prioritize objectives and clearly communicate priorities to others.
    • Highly goal and results oriented, with minimal need for supervision.
    • Effective writing and presentation skills.
