General Summary:

 


Under the supervision of the appropriate Service Line Leadership and the Emig Research Center Director of Research, serves as the personnel, project and program director for service line research. Promotes, expands and the manages service line research activities and programs. Facilitates service line contract negotiations between the System and research study sponsors. Acts as a clinical trial liaison. Manages the staff, facilities and services of the service line Research Department. Ensures that research requirements are carried out appropriately and that research activities reflect credibly on the professional medical and teaching status of the institution. Has a broad view and understanding of the service line and institutional research goals and objectives. Guides the development of service line research goals and assists in achieving quality recognition for the research program. Responds to divisional or program problems with insight, creativity and tact. Plans for contingencies that could affect the program. Serves as a senior non-medical representative of the program and acts as a mentor for research staff, students, physicians/nurses and other clinicians.

 

The following are essential job accountabilities:


1 Promotes the Systems investigators and facilities as a clinical trial site with research sponsors and Contract Research Organizations (CRO).
2 In collaboration with the service line Research Program Medical Director, establishes and leads a process to pursue, review, vet and select clinical trials that are congruent with the vision/mission of the service line and that can be adequately supported by the program
3 Designs, implements and manages systems to operationalize the strategic research plan, goals and objectives. Evaluates the program periodically to ensure alignment with service line objectives.
4 Acts as program manager and supervisor for all clinical studies, including providing training for research nurses and coordinators.
5 Manages daily operations of the research activities, including management of external vendors and clinical site operations in execution of clinical trials.
6 Directs, establishes and maintains documentation and record system. Ensures that only authorized staff has access to confidential data/records/information.
7 Prepares reports on study progress, quarterly or as needed by service line administration, principal investigators and/or external agencies. Responds to special needs or queries related to research projects/program.
8 Serves as research grant, contract and clinical trial agreement liaison and facilitator.
9 Ensures accurate receipt of payment from pharmaceutical, device or other sponsors, reconciling billable and received payments.
10 Establishes performance/productivity measures for the research program. Provides regular updates to service line leadership and principal investigators.
11 Develops and oversees the quality/performance improvement for assigned area to ensure maximum efficiency.
12 Establishes a mechanism to measure physician satisfaction with the service line research program. Implements action plans to address identified issues, as necessary.
13 Keeps current in new research developments, funding sources, budgetary and regulatory changes in the federal government and other information in order to respond to changing requirements.
14 Assists research staff, physicians and/or other investigators in evaluating compliance with requirements of protocols, research regulations, quality standards, policies and procedures. Initiates corrective action as needed. Suggests improved methods for accomplishing research objectives, including the responsible conduct of research and protection of the safety and welfare of human subjects.

Required Experience

Minimum Education:              

 

Master's Degree in nursing, or other Health Care related field with a BSN in nursing

 

 

 

Minimum Experience:           

 

4 - 6 years (3 – 5 years Service line related clinical experience and 1-2 years in relevant research setting)

 

 

 

Minimum Field Of Expertise:         

 

Service line related clinical background; education/evaluation/research methods; personnel/project/program management; research training/experience including medical/research ethics and human subjects protection, responsible conduct of research and scientific writing; research administration and regulatory compliance.
