Position Summary:

General Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Sleep Center Manager the Registered Sleep Technologist performs evaluation, testing and treatment of sleep disorders including in-center and out-of-center sleep testing, diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, comprehensive patient care and patient education. The Registered Sleep Technologist adjusts or modifies diagnostic techniques and treatment modalities within well-defined procedures. Works in patient care settings requiring exposure to unpleasant condition, biological hazards as well as high stress situations and utilizes a wide variety of equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1 Prepares and calibrate equipment used for sleep testing.
2 Performs appropriate equipment and biological calibrations.
3 Performs sleep study acquisition process, archives data, ensures completion of all forms and questionnaires and provides detailed documentation of routine observation during the polysomnography study.
4 Provides appropriate intervention to assure patient safety.
5 Provides appropriate therapeutic intervention for treatment, including but not limited to, CPAP, BiPAP, AutoSv, and oxygen administration.
6 Demonstrate proficiency in sleep stage identification and scoring using accepted AASM guidelines and Sleep Center guidelines/policies.
7 Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to perform portable monitoring equipment preparation (Home Sleep Study) and data download.
8 Performs patient education and instruction for out of center sleep testing.
9 Collaborates with the physician to assure proper testing and therapeutic intervention.
10 Provides quality care consistent with appropriate policies and procedures, quality assessment program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
11 Responds and interacts with hospital departments by providing appropriate information.
12 Complies with laws, regulations and standards regarding safety and infection control issues.
13 Follows HIPPA policies to maintain the privacy and security of patient information.
