Wellspan Good Samaritan’s Operating Room covers the areas of Ortho, General Surgery, Urology, GYN, Uro-Gynecology, Gynecologic Oncology, Podiatry, some Plastic Surgery, Breast surgery and Endoscopy procedures. The OR is ready for service 24 hours a day. Our Lifestyle call team covers call Sunday night through Friday morning. The rest of the team covers the call on Friday (12 hours) and 36 hours of the weekend in a rotation with the rest of the staff.

There are 11 rooms: 2 are dedicated to CVOR which is separate from the General OR. They have their own staff and cover their own call. 2 are Xi robot rooms used for GYN, Urology and General Surgery cases. 2 can be used for Endo/Bronchoscopy procedures. 1 is a dedicated Cysto (Urology) room. The rest are used for any procedures we do.


 

Job Description:

Under the direct supervision of the surgeon, performs a variety of duties in the operative treatment of surgical patients. Intraoperatively, practices at the direction of the surgeon and does not concurrently function as a scrub nurse. Assesses the patient preoperatively and develops a nursing care plan based on assessment. Assists in positioning, skin preparation and draping of the patient. Uses surgical instruments skillfully in ways consistent with their design and purpose. Evaluates the patient postoperatively and participates in discharge planning. Performs other medical services as required.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Provides primary surgical assistance to the surgeon during the operative procedure.
  2. Assesses the patient preoperatively and develops and communicates a patient plan of care based on assessment.
  3. Assists in positioning, skin preparation, and draping of the patient.
  4. Provides hemostasis, wound exposure, handles tissue appropriately to reduce the potential for injury, sutures tissue, and applies dressings to the wound under the direction of the surgeon.
  5. Uses surgical instruments skillfully in ways consistent with their design and purpose.
  6. Assists in transporting the patient postoperatively.
  7. Communicates information to the post anesthesia care unit.
  8. Communicates information to the family as appropriate.
  9. Evaluates the patient postoperatively and participates in discharge planning.
 

Qualifications

  • Minimum Experience:
    • 2 - 3 years of perioperative nursing experience in both a scrub and circulating role
  • Minimum Education:
    • Associate's Degree
  • Preferred Education:
    • Bachelor's Degree
  • Required Certification:
    • Registration and current RN license in PA; CRNFA certification or acquire within 18 months of eligibility; BLS certification
  • Preferred Certification:
    • CNOR certification; ACLS certification
  • Required Courses:
    • Successful completion of an RNFA program that includes a didactic and at least 120 hours of clinical component
