Open Heart Intensive Care Unit (OHICU) is a 10-bed intensive care unit (ICU) that provides care to critically ill/postoperative cardiothoracic, cardiovascular, and general surgery patients 18 years and older. Procedures and care provided include, but are not limited to, invasive hemodynamic monitoring, ventilator management, patients recovering from open heart surgery, arrythmia monitoring and intervention, advanced cardiac life support, pacemaker/ICD management, IABP management, CRRT utilization, ventricular assist device (VAD) management, and ECMO.
Under the general supervision of the Nurse Manager, provides professional nursing care at the intermediate practitioner level in accordance with the principles of patient and family-centered care based on the nursing process and according to the clinical standards of the hospital. Coordinates care planning with other disciplines. Coaches and mentors the Clinical Nurse I. Safely and independently administers prescribed treatments, medications, and nursing interventions based on assessment and plan of care. May require specialized skills depending on unit assignment.
