Job Description:

Under the general supervision of the Nurse Manager and Clinical Coordinators, reviews, administers, coordinates, and supports the 24/7 Central Monitoring Team (CMT). Uses advanced knowledge of telemetry, pulse oximetry, disease and human response to life threatening conditions to support monitoring technicians (MT) and direct care clinicians caring for inpatient telemetry patients. Working remotely and collaboratively with telemonitoring technology, acts as a real time clinical support for the Rapid Response Team, bedside nursing and/or physician/Advanced Practice Provider on patient conditions that require immediate attention. Supervises on-duty telemetry monitoring technicians and provides assistance and support as needed/requested, under the direction of the Nurse Manager. May provide episodic support to the Central Alert Team as requested.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Accountabilities:

  1. Participates in active Monitor Tech (MT) rounding, using information to improve the patient experience and staff satisfaction, ensure accountability to hospital and department policies and standard work.
  2. Assist with providing an environment free of distractions and excess noise to ensure telemetry patients are monitored in an environment conducive to patient safety.
  3. Support and round on Monitor Techs (MT), to ensure coverage is provided for desk bound MT lunch breaks, and other scheduled and unscheduled breaks.
  4. Provides timely and appropriate communication of identified and related assessment to appropriate clinical staff and/or Rapid Response Team.
  5. Maintains a thorough knowledge and understanding of evidence-based/best practice.
  6. Utilizes strong decision making, systems thinking and computer literacy skills in a remote practice environment, to assist in support of coordinated and timely patient care intervention.
  7. Follows escalation process/procedure to address real-time care concerns.
  8. Precepts new hire MT or other clinical staff as directed.
  9. Takes ownership of assigned quality audits and other performance improvement and patient safety initiatives as assigned.
 

NonEssential Accountabilities:

  1. Responsible for the care and maintenance of department/entity equipment and supplies.
  2. Attends meetings as required and participates on committees as requested.
  3. Performs other related duties as identified.
 

Common Expectations:

  1. Protects patient confidentiality by promoting professional staff communications.
  2. Completes reports in the Safety Reporting System, for safety concerns and when applicable, and completes audits of safety concerns as assigned.
  3. Actively coaches; utilizing professional verbal and written communication to coach staff in a positive, helpful and productive
  4. Works with the Central Monitoring Team Management to conduct special projects or reviews as requested.
  5. Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility.
  6. Assists with scheduling and finding staff to cover vacancies
  7. Ensures timely escalation of technology issues
  8. Maintains ongoing education for licensure, certifications and as required within work specialization.
 

Qualifications

  • Notes:
    • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Minimum Experience:
    • 3 years
    • Min Field of ExpertiseNursing experience in Emergency Department, Critical Care, or Remote Monitoring setting/role; Proven experience and competent in rhythm analysis/interpretation
  • Minimum Education:
    • BSN or equivalent experience, Other combinations of formal education, training and experience may be considered
  • Required Certification:
    • Registration and current RN license in PA; Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Preferred Certification:
    • Certified Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) or Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN); or other Professional Certification
  • Physical Demands:
    • Mostly sedentary work
    • Occasional prolonged sitting/standing
    • Occasional reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching
  • Skills:
    • Excellent computer skills; Effective decision making; Highly organized; Proven outstanding interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability to function as a team player; Leadership skills; Knowledge of the Healthcare System and matrix relationships; Excellent professional written and verbal communication skills, Excellent teamwork skills; knowledge of appropriate order sets and clinical protocols; Ability to work independently and as an integral part of a collaborative team
