Job Description


Under the general supervision of the Medical Director, the Manager-Noninvasive Cardiology and the department supervisor conducts routine telemetry monitored diagnostic cardiac stress testing procedures at an advanced skill and knowledge level. The RN in this role will collaborate with the Cardiology health care team to determine the best testing options for patients undergoing cardiac stress testing. Provides pre-test assessment, monitors patients during testing and has advanced knowledge of ECG interpretation and implementation of protocol driven interventions.


Duties and Responsibilities


  1. Responsible for the oversight of ECG monitored cardiac stress tests based on approved testing protocols. Monitors patient hemodynamic status during stress testing.
  2. Safely & independently directs administration of medications during procedures according to standardized protocols and physician orders.
  3. Reviews patient history and risk stratification for stress testing to determine the appropriate level of supervision. Consults with a cardiologist as risk stratification indicates.
  4. Educates and responds to patient questions & concerns regarding stress test.
  5. Independently recognizes changes in patient condition related to cardiac stress testing & directs interventions based on assessment of patient. Initiates emergency action in response to acute risk situations.
  6. Follows radiation safety polices as outlined by York Hospitals Radiation Safety Committee.
  7. Maintains documentation in patient record as appropriate for the test and treatment rendered.
  8. Assists other RN’s in the department with patient care and & daily tasks when needed.
  9. Notifies and collaborates with physician when further patient evaluation/intervention is needed.
  10. Seeks learning opportunities and resources beyond own work environment and incorporates into practice the new knowledge and skills acquired. Maintain ANCC cardiovascular certification. Encouraged to share pertinent information and job knowledge, related to readings, educational programs and participation in professional organization activities.
  11. Actively promotes an environment conducive to professional practice, interdisciplinary collaboration, and patient and staff safety. Supports Shared Decision Making by unit and/or hospital-wide committee membership or by supporting and helping fellow co-workers attend committee meetings and/or work on SDM projects.

  3. Enhances professional growth and development through advanced/continuing education to maintain up-to-date knowledge, skills, and competencies.
  4. Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental and infection control standards.

  • Minimum Experience:
    • 2-3 years of acute care experience, including: 1 year of Cardiology experience AND
    • 1 year of Stress Testing experience
    • Req Cert/Registration-Current RN license in PA AND ACLS certification AND Cardiac-Vascular Nursing certification from American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) OR Critical Care Nursing Certification (CCRN) from Association of Critical Care Nurses
  • Minimum Education:
    • Associate’s Degree
    • Preferred Education-Bachelors of Science, Nursing (BSN)
