Job Description:

Under the general supervision of the Senior Director-Performance Improvement, serves as a leadership partner to Regional/Corporate Leadership Teams in support of WellSpan's journey toward high reliability. Serves as a catalyst of a continuous improvement culture and leads a high performing team that partners with System and regional leaders to achieve operational excellence.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Serves as the primary resource for expertise on LEAN principles and methodology. Understands both clinical and non-clinical activities and processes within a healthcare setting,
  2. Functions as a strategic leader providing support, oversight and coordination of enterprise priorities,
  3. Responsible for overall coordination of standardized regional/corporate performance improvement processes,
  4. Proactively identifies areas of process opportunity and innovation. Prioritizes, directs and facilitates the regions/corporate portfolio management and continuous learning to ensure success in LEAN healthcare initiatives. Brings together multidisciplinary stakeholders in a collaborative environment to solve problems. Serves as coach, teacher, facilitator of LEAN principles, tools, and assists with stakeholder’s application of LEAN thinking and methods to solve problems.
  5. Promotes strong cooperation and alignment with stakeholders across the enterprise. Serves as the primary relationship owner between regional/corporate leadership, and LEAN Team.
  6. Represents LEAN thinking when participating on regional, corporate, and enterprise committees and teams.
  7. Demonstrates LEAN behaviors that help support improvement practice among team members to promote safe, coordinated, effective and efficient care for our patients.
  8. Facilitates kaizen planning, events, sustained improvement efforts, results, and management of drift by managing post event process observations and continued PDSA.
  9. Ensures organization wide LEAN assessments are conducted and evaluated for improvement.
  10. Develops, implements, and maintains LEAN healthcare and improvement related metrics and reports that reflect the progress and sustainability of LEAN across the enterprise. Provides regular progress reports to the regional/corporate team and Sr. Director
  11. Attends meetings as required, and participates on committees as requested.
  12. Recommends sufficient space and other resources required by the department/service line/entity.
  13. Performs other related duties as identified.
  14. Recommends staffing levels, selects and assigns staff, evaluates performance, evaluates/tests competencies (as applicable), provides orientation, training and continuing education of staff, and initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions.
  15. Develops budget for department and system-wide WDMS (Lean)/Performance Improvement activities. Allocates funds within budget to accomplish objectives. Monitors variance against budget.
  16. Develops, establishes and implements goals, objectives, and policies and procedures for department/service line/entity operation, and which guide and support the provision of the department/service line/entity's services.
  17. Continuously assesses and improves the department/service line/entity/System's performance. Maintains appropriate quality control/assessment programs (if applicable).
  18. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
  19. Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.The following are nonessential job accountabilities for purposes:
 

Qualifications

  • Minimum Experience:
    • 5 - 7 years
  • Minimum Education:
    • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Industrial or Management Engineering or related fields
  • Minimum Field Of Expertise:
    • Experience with quality systems, advanced PI concepts including LEAN and Six Sigma methodology and progressive leadership experience
  • Preferred Education:
    • Master's Degree (MBA)
  • Required Certification:
    • LEAN Six Sigma certification
  • Skills:
    • Computer management skills including data base administration, project management. Exceptional communication, coaching and facilitation skills and advanced computer skills necessary for analysis, presentations and reporting of results.
    • Previous quality management experience including a working understanding of common improvement theories and techniques; Strong working knowledge of descriptive statistics; Demonstrated ability to conduct and interpret quantitative/qualitative analysis; Ability within matrix format to influence and communication; Awareness of CMS and Pennsylvania state regulations related to healthcare
