Position Summary:

6 classes required to teach a year; meetings as needed

General Summary:

Under general supervision, develops, coordinates and presents childbirth education programs for the community.

Duties and Responsibilities:
 1 Provides accurate information about the physiology, psychology, and sociology of pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum, and early parenthood.
2 Provides skills to assist women and their support persons to cope with pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum, and early parenthood.
3 Acts as a facilitator who helps couples better understand and value their experience as they transition into parenthood.
4 Provides an avenue for communication between the pregnant women and other members of the health care team.
5 Serves as an advocate for pregnant women, their partners and infants.
6 Communicates accurate information about pregnancy, childbirth, childcare, and early parenthood in a clear, concise, understandable manner
7 Serves as a resource to the community by developing and planning programs in response to identified needs.

Department Description:

The Maternity Center at GH is a 12 bed unit delivering Family/Maternity Centered Care  which includes non-separation of the mother/newborn couplet. All RN staff are cross trained in all three areas as we are one unit.
We have an amazing team of nurses and care providers.
